PRODUCT DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

1. PURPOSE
To establish and maintain a documented procedure for new product development.

2. SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to all new product developed in the plant or any R&D
is carried out.

3. RESPONSIBILITY

Unit Head & Head quality manager ensures implementation of this procedure.

4. PROCEDURE
4.1 Head Sales & Marketing shall communicate with the customers on behalf of the
company to knowcustomer’srequirements.

4.2 Head Sales & Marketing collects all the details required for development, specifications
and manufacturing and distribution of the product as required by the customer. This
shall be in the form of readymade samples of finished product or Packed product of the
competitors or any other specific details in the form of document.

4.3 The requirement of the customer is reviewed, documented and communicated to the
product development department for further action.

4.4 Prior to Product development, in depth hazard analysis of all the contents, RM, PM and
process parameters required to produce a safe product shall be done. Hazard
associated with new raw materials, packing materials and processes shall be
documented.

4.5 After finalizing the recipe, trial protocols shall be prepared taking inputs from all the
stake holders. Trials shall be conducted to produce required product.

4.6 After trials, thorough testing is done to validate the fact that the Product Recipe and
manufacturing process is capable of producing safe & legal product with required
characteristics including expected shelf life. Trail sample shall be stored separately to
avoid mixing with the regular products. Trail sample shall not be send to market.

4.7 Finished Products having new category with new packing composition is tested for
shelf life, can also be verified from outside lab under stimulated conditions of storage
and handling. Results of study involve different aspects and this may require
compliance with different microbiological, chemical, physical and organoleptic

standards.

4.8 Product ingredients, packing material selected and labeling requirements shall meet
the legislation of the target country. For exports sometimes, this shall also be verified
by getting approval from buyer.

4.9 Product related stated claim on the label are designed in correlation with product
formulation and process.

4.10 New product packaging in direct contact with the product should of Food Grade
quality and suitable for intended use and expected shelf life. Only Food grade
packaging material Hdpe/Ldpe is used as Packaging which shall come in direct contact
with the product.

4.11 Information regarding the new designed product/ changes in existing product shall be
communicated via e mail to all the concerned in the company to ensure that changes in
formulation are adequately assessed for safety and legality.

4.12 Customer feedback is received as a performance indicator to evaluate and further


improve the product.

4.13 After the complete verification of product characteristics, shelf life, hazard analysis,
Physical, Chemical, Microbiological and organoleptic parameters trial sample can be
approved. After the approval of product, production run can be started. Final Approval
of product will be carried out by MD.
