TOPIC- REPORTED SPEECH


Direct and Indirect Speech

There are two ways of Reporting what another person has said:

1. He said , “ I am tired of hearing these complaints.”

This is called Direct Speech.

2. We may give an account of what another person has said, such as

He said that he was tired of hearing those complaints.

This is called Indirect Speech.

He said , “ I am tired of hearing these complaints.

He said is the Reported Verb ( R V)

I am tired of hearing these complaints . This is Reported Speech ( RS )

When the reported Verb is in Present or Future tenses, the tenses of Reported
Speech will not be changed.

When The RV is in Past Tenses then we should follow the chart of tenses to change
the tense.

Always follow the formula son/ 123 while changing the pronouns

1st ( I , We )person of RS will be changed according to the subject of the RV

2nd ( you ) Person of RS will be changed according to the object of RV

3rd person ( He, She. It, They ) of RS will not be Changed
