CHAPTER 5

HOMEWORK

1) A bipolar transistor is biased in the forward active mode. The collector

current is 𝑖𝐶 = 726𝜇𝐴 and the emitter current is 𝑖𝐸 = 732𝜇𝐴.
Determine 𝛽, 𝛼, 𝑖𝐵
2) An npn transistor with 𝛽 = 80 is connected in a common-base
configuration as shown in Figure. The emitter is driven by a constant-
current source with 𝐼𝐸 = 1.2𝑚𝐴. Determine 𝐼𝐵 , 𝐼𝐶 , 𝛼 and 𝑉𝐶

3) (a)The pnp transistor shown in Figure has a common-base current

gain 𝛼 = 0.9860. Determine the emitter current such that 𝑉𝐶 = −1.2𝑉.
What is the base current?
(a) Using the results of part (a) and assuming 𝐼𝐸𝑂 = 2𝑥10−15 𝐴,
determine 𝑉𝐸𝐵
4) For all the transistors 𝛽 = 75. The results of some measurements are
indicated on the figures. Find the values of the other labeled currents,
voltages, and/or resistor values.

10) Consider the circuit in Figure. The parameters of transistor are 𝐼𝑆 =

5 × 10−16 𝐴 and 𝛽 = 90. Determine 𝑉𝐵𝐵 in circuit such that 𝑉𝐶𝐸 = 1.10𝑉
11) The transistor shown in Figure has 𝛽 = 120. Determine 𝐼𝐶 and 𝑉𝐸𝐶 .
Plot the load line and the Q point.

12) Consider the common base circuit shown in below. Assume the
transistor alpha is 𝛼 = 0.9920. 𝑉𝐸𝐵 (𝑜𝑛) = 0.7𝑉. Determine 𝐼𝐶 , 𝐼𝐸, 𝑉𝐵𝐶
13) The transitor in Figure has 𝛽 = 120. Determine 𝑉𝐼 that produces
𝑉0 = 4𝑉 for (i)𝑅𝐸 = 0 and (ii)𝑅𝐸 = 1𝑘Ω
14) The transistor in the circuit shown in below has a current gain 𝛽 =
𝐼𝐶
40. Determine 𝑅𝐵 such that 𝑉0 = 0.2 and = 20 when 𝑉𝐼 = 5𝑉 (𝑉0 =
𝐼𝐵
𝑉𝐶𝐸 (𝑠𝑎𝑡)). 𝑉𝐵𝐸 (𝑜𝑛) = 0.7𝑉.

15) The current gain for the transistor in the circuit shown in below is
𝐼𝐶
𝛽 = 60. Determine 𝑅𝐵 such that 𝑉0 = 8.8 𝑉 when 𝑉𝐼 = 5𝑉 and = 25
𝐼𝐵
𝑉𝐸𝐵 (𝑜𝑛) = 0.7𝑉
