1. Let X be a random variable with distribution function F . Then find the distribution function for |X|,

2. Let X be a discrete random variable with p.m.f. P (X = −2) = 15 , P (X = −1) = 16 , P (X = 0) = 15 ,

P (X = 1) = 15 and P (X = 2) = 30 . Find the p.m.f. and d.f. of Y = X 2 .
3. Let X be a random variable with p.d.f.

4. The random variable X has p.d.f. fX (x) = 21 e−|x| , −∞ < x < ∞. Find the distribution of Y = X 2 .

among the final 5, as a function of X. Find the probability mass function for Y .
8. If X is a random variable such that E(X) = 3 and E(X 2 ) = 13, then determine a lower bound for
