Material Flow System - EWM Integration

Material flow system is a module in SAP, where we can connect automatic

warehouse with EWM without any warehouse control unit.

Here we will be utilising LOSC to break the warehouse task in to smaller task
to perform the automatic storage or Picking.

This subdivided task will be sent to PLC using telegram(Like Message, Email)
and necessary decision will be taken about the product putaway or stock
removal.

Terminology need to know iin MFS is

PLC - Programmable Logic Units:

A PLC is a programmable computing device that is used to manage

electromechanical processes, usually in the industrial niche.

Communication Channels:

A communication channel is a medium that allows a message to be sent to a specific

audience. Some examples of communication channels includePhone calls, Text
messages, Emails, Video conferencing, Instant messaging, Live chat, Webinars,
Corporate intranet, Social media, and Radio.

In Terms of Warehouse management, Communication channels are predominately used to

1. Sharing information (Like Items received at Particular Location)

2. Asking questions (Asking EWM, Where to Put/Pick the stocks)
3. Providing answers to questions (EWM Will answer the question and send the
information to the PLC)
4. Receiving and sending important messages (Vice Versa for the acknowledgment)

Communication Points:

Communication points is like, where carton box will stand at one point in the conveyor belt
and waiting for the system to tell, which way to go.(Eg Go straight or Go Right).

vehicles to move goods within and outside a warehouse. The goal of warehouse
routing is to find the shortest and most cost-effective paths to minimize the time and
cost of order picking.

Telegram:

SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), a telegram is a message sent between SAP
EWM MFS and a PLC (or subsystem) to communicate with automated material handling
equipment (MHE).

Telegrams are used to execute warehouse tasks. For example, when a new warehouse task
(WT) is created, the system generates a telegram with a type of "WT”.

Telegrams are sent and received using a TCP/IP connection.
