PROPOSAL PREAMBLE
PROPOSAL HEADINGS
• The Project Proposal should include the following headings:
1. Title page,
2. Preamble
3. Abstract
4. CHAPTER 1: Introduction/Background,
5. CHAPTER 2: Literature review
6. CHAPTER 3: Methodologies,
7. CHAPTER 4: Expected outcomes/Deliverables,
8. CHAPTER 5: Budget
9. CHAPTER 6: Timeline
10. References cited.

ABSTRACT
Abstract is a formal summary of your completed
work
Abstract, like summary, the main points of a
piece of writing that includes the field of study,
problem definition, methodology adopted,
research process, conclusion and planning of
the project work, etc.
INTRODUCTION
• Background and Significance: Provide an introduction and
detailed description of the current state of the topic with
appropriate references.
• Problem statement :
• Objectives: Provide clear and specific objectives towards
advancing the state of the topic. The objectives should be
achievable during the two semester duration of your project.
• Scope and limitations:
• Justification: needs for the intended project and its
contribution to your field should be clearly identified and
summarized.
Problem statement
State the existing problem to be solved.
Motivation - why you want to solve it, why the project is
needed?
Writing up on problem statement and motivation:
You would like to solve some problems.
You would like to improve something.
You would like to develop something that does not
existed or carry out enhancement on an existing work
LITERATURE REVIEW
Highlight what is the current practice or existing
research/results towards the problem.
Discussions should include: -What have other
researchers/developers done to resolve the problem? -
What are the strengths of their solutions? -What are the
weaknesses/limitations of their solutions?
How these weaknesses/limitations can be resolved?
METHODOLOGY:

Provide a detailed description of how the stated


objectives of the project will be achieved.
Include a detailed outline of methods used in
your analysis and validation. This section of the
proposal is very important and should provide a
complete picture of how the intended work will
be accomplished.
Expected outcomes
A list of tangible items you will provide such as a
software with documentation, a new theory with
complete justification, a piece of hardware to
demonstrate or prove a concept, or a set of data
figures to report the result of experimental study.
TIMELINE

Provide a schedule for delivery of the study such


as start date, research activities, fabrication of
hardware, semester report submission, and
semester presentation.

REFERENCES
References: Using a professional citation format
(e.g., ASME, APA, HARVARD, IEEE, MLA),
provide the reference list that supports the
research background on the topic.
