b. In your opinion, does the operating system affect the overall performance of your device? Why or
why not?
Yes, the operating system significantly affects the overall performance of the device. Windows 10 Home
is optimized for a wide range of hardware configurations, but it can be resource-intensive. Proper system
updates and maintenance (e.g., disk cleanup, defragmentation) can help improve performance, but the
OS itself requires sufficient processing power and memory to run smoothly.
c. Give five (5) installed applications that greatly affect the processing speed or performance of your
device.
d. In your perspective, is there a possible relationship between the processor and the display quality
of your device? Rationalize your answer.
Yes, there is a relationship between the processor and the display quality, especially in how the device
handles graphics and video playback. The processor influences the speed and efficiency of rendering
images and videos. While the display quality is primarily determined by the screen's resolution and
technology, the processor's ability to handle high-resolution content smoothly can impact the overall
visual experience.
e. Operating System, RAM, or Processor: Which among the three would you upgrade first and why?
I would upgrade the RAM first. Increasing the RAM generally provides the most noticeable improvement
in performance, especially for multitasking and running memory-intensive applications. While upgrading
the processor or OS can also enhance performance, adding more RAM is often the most cost-effective
and straightforward way to achieve a better overall experience.
3. Search for another example of an operating system (aside from the operating systems that are
already included in the handout) and examine its architecture and specifications. Then, answer the
following items:
QNX Neutrino is a real-time operating system (RTOS) that is based on a microkernel architecture. Its
design allows it to run only the most essential services in the kernel, such as inter-process
communication (IPC), memory management, and scheduling. Additional services, like file systems or
networking, run in user space, which enhances system stability and security by isolating different
components.
QNX Neutrino is unique due to its microkernel architecture and real-time capabilities. It is designed for
high reliability and performance in embedded systems, making it ideal for industries like automotive,
medical devices, and industrial automation. Its ability to run critical processes with minimal latency and
its robustness against system failures set it apart from general-purpose operating systems.
