Community Helpers

Do you know a police officer?


Do you know a crossing guard?
How about a fireman?
Do you know what they do?
All of them help us! The people who help us are community helpers.
What is a community? Great question! A community is a group of
people. They live in the same area. They may
work together. Did you know your classroom is a
kind of community? You work together, and you
share lunch and recess.
Can you name other people who help you?

Community helpers help each other. They solve problems together. Do


you help others in your classroom? Do you help
the teacher? Then you are a community helper!
Community helpers volunteer to help. Volunteer
means you spend some of your time helping others.

When you volunteer in your


community, you help others. It
makes you
feel good!

Community helpers keep you safe and healthy. They keep


neighborhoods clean. Many volunteer their time. If you are not a
community helper, here are some ways to become one!

• Volunteer your time at a homeless shelter.


• Raise money for a charity.
• If you belong to a church, find out where you can serve.
• Teach others about recycling and picking up litter.
• Help another students better understand their schoolwork.
• Help an elderly neighbor.
