o “Who is Jack?”
Student Activity:
Students listen carefully to the story and respond to the questions.
Encourage them to answer in full sentences (e.g., “Jack climbs the
beanstalk.”).
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jack. Jack lived with his
mother. One day, they had no food or money, so Jack’s mother told him
to sell their cow at the market.
On his way to the market, Jack met a man who offered him magic
beans for the cow. Jack took the beans and went back home. His
mother was very angry and threw the beans out of the window.
The next morning, Jack woke up and saw a huge beanstalk growing in
his garden! It reached all the way up into the sky. Jack decided to climb
it.
When Jack reached the top, he found a giant’s castle. In the castle,
Jack found a treasure chest full of gold coins and a magical harp
that played beautiful music. Jack took the treasure and the harp and
climbed back down the beanstalk.
When Jack came home, he showed his mother the treasure. They were
very happy, and they lived happily ever after.
Teacher Activity:
Provide students with a worksheet where they have to match words
from the story with pictures (e.g., a picture of Jack, a beanstalk, a
giant, a castle). Then, have them complete simple sentences with
the correct vocabulary.
Student Activity:
Complete the worksheet. Encourage them to use the vocabulary
and the simple sentence structures they learned. They may need
some help with the sentences.
Teacher Activity:
Write simple sentence structures on the board (e.g., “Jack ___ the
beanstalk,” “The giant ____ treasure”). Ask students to fill in the
blanks using the vocabulary learned. Model one example first.
Student Activity:
Students take turns filling in the blanks on the board and saying the
full sentences. For example, “Jack climbs the beanstalk.” or “The
giant has treasure.”
