ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

At the outset I thank God, the fountain of all wisdom, for all His counsel and
guidance all through my life and in particular during this research period.

I deem it my bounden duty to express my gratitude to my learned research


supervisor Dr. E. Kirubakaran Additional General Manager, Bharat Heavy
Electricals Limited, Tiruchirappalli – 620014, but for whose constant encouragement,
guidance and support, this thesis would not have seen the light of the day. I would like
to thank him profusely for having been my role model combining in himself a
demanding supervisor and a genial fatherly figure.

With deep sense of appreciation and gratitude, I wish to express my heartfelt


thanks to Dr Gopinath Ganapathy, Professor and Head, Department of Computer
Science, Engineering and Applications, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, for
having kindly permitted me to pursue the Ph.D programme in the department and for
all his support and valuable suggestions.
