Course Objectives:
 Design & analyse synchronous sequential logic circuits
 Analyse various logic families.
 To acquire the basic knowledge of digital logic levels and application of knowledge to understand
digital electronics circuits.
 To prepare students to perform the analysis and design of various digital electronic circuits.

Number system and Logic Gates: Introduction of number systems, Radix,
1 Radix Interco 9
versions. Radix Complement, Diminished radix complement
Boolean algebra: Basic theorem of Boolean algebra. Boolean function and
minimization, Karnaugh map Universal Gates, Realization of Primary gates using
2 Universal gates only. 9
Minterm and Maxterm Realization of Boolean Functions, Gate-level minimization: The
map method up to four variables, don’t care conditions, SOP and POS simplification,
Quine Mc- Cluskey Method
Combinational logic circuits: Binary adder and Subtractor circuits, Magnitude
3 comparator, Decoders, Encoders, Multiplexer, and demultiplexer, Realization of 9
switching expressions by decoders, encoders, multiplexer and Demultiplexer.
Sequential Logic Circuits: Sequential circuits, latches, and Flip Flops, difference
4 between latch and flip flop, SR flip flop, JK flip flop, Master Slave flip flop, 9
comparison.
5 Digital Integrated Circuits: Characteristics of digital ICs, Introduction to logic 9
families-RTL, DTL, TTL, ECL. MOS and CMOS circuits and comparison

List of Experiments:
1. To study and verify the truth table of basic gates.
2. To study and verify the truth table of universal gate.
3. To simplify the given expression and to realize it using basic gates and universal gate.
4. To realize why NAND gate is known as the universal gate.
5. To realize why NOR gate is known as the universal gate.
6. Realization of Half Adder and Full Adder by using Basic gates.
7. Realization of Half Adder and Full Adder by using universal gate.
8. Realization of Half Subtractor and Full Subtractor by using Basic gates.
9. Realization of Half Subtractor and Full Subtractor by using universal gate.
10. Realization of Binary to grey generator.

Course Outcome:
At the end of this course students will demonstrate the ability to:
CO1. Design and analyse combinational logic circuits.
CO2. Design and analyse modular combinational circuits with MUX / DEMUX, Decoder &Encoder
