Reflection Paper
Our field trip was an amazing
experience. It gave me the
chance to learn more about
our history and see some of
the most important places in
the Philippines. The first stop
was Museo ni Rizal in
Calamba, Laguna. This is the
house where José Rizal was
born. The house is old, but it’s
still in great condition, and I was amazed at how well it’s been taken care
of. Inside, we saw many things that belonged to Rizal and his family, like
old books, clothes, and even furniture. I was especially interested in
seeing Rizal’s childhood room. It was a simple room, but it felt special
because it was where a future national hero spent his early years. We also
saw the room of his mother, Teodora Alonso Realonda, and the family’s
dining table. The bathroom was another interesting part of the house. I
just found it amusing how they used to poop back then. After the tour, we
took a photo in Rizal’s yard, which was a nice way to end the visit.
Next, we went to
Intramuros, a place I’ve
always wanted to visit.
Intramuros is famous for
its old buildings and walls.
I had only seen pictures of
it before, but being there
in person made me
appreciate its beauty even more. It felt like I was stepping back in time,
and I was amazed by how well-preserved everything was. There were a lot
of tourists in the area, which probably also there to admire its beauty. One
of the highlights was riding the kalesa, an old way of transportation that
was commonly used during Rizal’s time. It gave me a better sense of what
life was like back then. After the kalesa ride, we went inside San Agustin
Church. This church was built between 1587 and 1607, and it was huge!
The inside was just as beautiful as the outside. The size and detail of the
church really impressed me, we also took a lot of pictures here.
Our last stop was Luneta Park, where José Rizal
was executed. Being at the site of such an
important moment in our history was very
powerful. Rizal’s death marked the beginning of
the Philippines’ fight for freedom, and standing
there made me realize just how much he
sacrificed for the country. It was a humbling
experience to be at a place where such a
significant event in our history took place.
Overall, what amazed me the most during this trip was the old
architecture and how it has been preserved through the years. Seeing
Intramuros and the other historical sites in person made me appreciate
our culture even more. I also learned a lot about José Rizal and his
importance to the Philippines. This field trip was a great reminder of how
rich our history is and how important it is to preserve it, especially
because it serves as a great reminder of how we got our freedom.
