B. Direction: Explain the importance of each assessment principle-briefly.

1. Address learning targets or curriculum goals.

The fact that both the educators and the students are directed by learning targets as to what they
should be teaching and learning is one of the most important aspects of this evaluation. First and
foremost, educators make use of learning targets to determine the kinds of actions they should be on
the lookout for from students as they demonstrate their degree of expertise and knowledge.

2. Provide efficient feedback on instructions.

The significance of this evaluation lies in the fact that providing feedback to students entails discussing
both what the students are doing well and what they are doing poorly, with the primary focus being
placed on the students' successful performance. When pupils are provided with an explanation of what
aspects of their work are strong and what aspects need improvement. It is quite helpful to their
educational development.

3. Use a variety of assessment procedures.

The significance of this evaluation lies in the fact that there are a variety of compelling arguments in
favor of giving consideration to providing alternative assessment methods to the more conventional
quizzes, tests, and examinations. In order for students to be able to effectively handle more
sophisticated course work and work later on in their profession, it is necessary for them to memorize
material and replicate it on exams.

4. Ensure that assessment is valid, reliable, and fair.

The relevance of this evaluation lies in the fact that it ought to be valid, in the sense that the inferences
that we form about the students' learning ought to be accurate. In addition to this, they ought to be
dependable, in the sense that they should produce the same outcome each time they are utilized. To
put it another way, this is because the evaluations have to be trustworthy and consistent indicators of
the students' levels of achievement.

5. Keep record of assessment.

The importance of this evaluation lies in the fact that teachers are required to keep precise records for
each individual student. It is beneficial for the instructor as well as the students to perform an
evaluation of their relationship regarding teaching and learning. Without a well-maintained system of
record keeping for students' examination and test performance, there will be nothing on which to build
in terms of the success of the students.

6. Interpret and communicate results of assessment meaningfully.

1 FIELD STUDY II: A Guide 21ST Century Student Teachers

To accurately interpret test scores, teachers must examine the test's overall performance and the
performance of individual test components to develop meaningful inferences about student
performance. Teachers can use this information to prepare for exam discussions with students.

Examine the data you have gathered. Answer the following questions:
1. Based on the five (5) purposes of assessing students given by your cooperating teacher,
which is the most important?
I believe that this is the most important purpose of assessment because the teachers are doing their
job to help the students learn and acquire various information. It is important to measure whether or not
the students are learning and whether or not they truly understand the subject that has been presented
to them.
2. Which among the six assessment principles is the most important for you? Explain your
answer.
I believe the most significant assessment is the one that interprets and communicates the findings of
the assessment in a meaningful way, because it expresses to target to soothe the emotion of every
student and to help their result through beneficial communication and interaction.
3. Which approach is more applicable in a 21st century classroom, norm-referenced
assessment or criterion-referenced assessment? Why?
The criterion-reference assessment, in my opinion, is the most appropriate for use in classrooms of the
twenty-first century because, with this method of evaluation, the interpretation of a test score was
measured through knowledge, skills, and abilities that a person or group may demonstrate from a
clearly defined content or behaviour area.

Reflection
Write your reflection by completing the following questions:
 I realized that:
Evaluation is vital in teaching and learning since it measures if the student understands the content. It
helps the teacher target the student's learning needs.
 I believe it is essential to:
I think a good assessment is necessary to know the learners' true results. Because they worked hard,
they should be valued.
 From now on, I am determined to:
From now on, I'm going to do everything I can to help my students who are having trouble getting
information. Even though their lives are different, I am determined to teach them.

1. Why is it important to prepare and plan before you assess?

2 FIELD STUDY II: A Guide 21ST Century Student Teachers
Preparing for a test is important because it makes sure that you do the best you can on the test. With
the help of the resources you have available, we can get ready by going over the themes and contents.
Setting yourself up for success in teaching and assessing is also very important.

2. What are the different features of the table of specifications of your cooperating teacher? State
each feature.
My cooperating teacher's table of specifications is much easier to read than the other one. Its failure
tends to focus on the students' ability to think and be creative. The scores match up with the level of the
learners as well.

3. What is the most difficult part in creating a table of specifications? Why?

The most challenging aspects of constructing a table of specifications are frequently those that involve
making use of the course objectives, topics covered in class, amount of time spent on those topics,
textbooks chapter themes, and the emphasis and space offered in the text.

4. What will happen to the test if the teacher does not prepare a table of specifications?
When it comes to evaluating the students, the teacher won't be able to perform to a satisfactory level.
The table of specifications is used to determine the level of achievement and to ensure that the test will
have a set of questions that are both fair and indicative of the whole. Teachers are not able to evaluate
every topic or target, nor can they ask every question that they would like their students to ask them.

Examine the data you have gathered. Answer the following questions:

1. Which is easier to construct, select type items or supply type items?

For me, the selection type is the one that is the least difficult to construct because I already have an
understanding of how to make a question such as a matching type or multiple choice question.

2. Which is easier to check, select type items or supply type items?

The supply type items, in my opinion, are the ones that are easiest to check because the answers are
already evident, and the teachers can be sure to spot them without difficulty.

3. Which is more objective, select type items or supply type items? Why?
In my opinion, the supply-type questions are the most objective type because they tend to be more
factual and include answers that are either short and clear or longer and more confusing.

4. How do you ensure fairness and objectivity in checking essay type items?
For me, to make sure I'm being fair and objective when grading essay-type tasks, I'll look at how well
each student knows the subject they've studied so that their answers can be judged the same way. I
will make sure that no student gets less of an explanation and a lower grade because of it

I realized that the test questions must be given much time to consider, in order to come up
with a productive and easy questions that every student can comprehend. It must also be
beneficial to the students, as the majority of them are dealing with various issues at home.

 I believe it is essential to:

I believe it's essential to be aware of the test questions in order to make a good test. Most
of the students are having problems at home, so it's important that the test questionnaire
gives them enough satisfaction.

 From now on, I am determined to:

From now on, I'm going to plan my daily life so I can finish my course and make sure my
test questions are well thought out. I'll also help my future students grow up to be the

Examine the data you have gathered. Explain your answers to the following questions:

1. What is the main purpose of using a rubric?

For me, rubrics are essentially a collection of criteria for projects, assignment, and other types of work.
Rubrics define what must be included in order to receive a given score or grade. It enables the learner
to analyze his or her own work prior to submission. The rubrics can be used by teachers to justify their
grades.
2. What will happen if the teacher will not use a rubric in grading a performance task of the
students?
The teacher, in my opinion, will not gradually aid the students' needs, and they will be unable to identify
the good quality results of the students' performance. The teacher will have a difficult time assessing
their students and interpreting their scores.
3. What will you advice to the teachers who are not using rubrics in assessing students'
product and performance?
For my part, I will advise them to hunt for a better choice in terms of providing important scores to
students, because most students nowadays are perfectionists who strive for high marks. So, we as a
future instructor, we must modify a perfect item to give scores towards our students.

Examine the data you have gathered. Answer the following questions:
1. When it is your time to teach, what will you ask your students to compile in their learning
portfolio? Why?
When it's my turn to teach, I'll only ask my students about their valuable learning journey during our
whole class. I won't make them use perfect grammar all the time, as long as it helps them answer the
question and shows that they are learning something in our class.
2. As future teacher, what is the importance of assessing student's learning by preparing
a learning portfolio?
For me, portfolio evaluation gives students a chance to think about how they did in the real world, to
show their weak and strong areas, to track their growth as they learn, and to encourage them to take
responsibility for their own learning.
3. Among the purposes given by your cooperating teacher, which purpose is the best? Why?
For me, the finest purpose is the reflects the accomplishment, abilities and experiences since portfolio
is not about dealing with highest score but it’s all about writing our own experience which is for us it
offers us the path to live and learn despite of the occurences.

Reflection
Write your reflection by completing the following questions:
 I realized that:
I realized that the purpose of a portfolio is not about scoring but about putting all of one's
strengths and weaknesses on display in order to create a foundation for managing the
learning process for the next class experience.
