This project, conducted as part of our course, aims to help students understand fundamental
concepts in mechanical systems such as stress, shear force, and bending moments, while also
enhancing their skills in computer-aided analysis and data processing.
The solutions to these problems involved both analytical methods and modern software tools such as
Excel. Analytical methods provided students with a deeper understanding of basic engineering
principles, while Excel formulations served as a tool for automating and visualizing engineering
calculations. Additionally, through group work, students had the opportunity to experience the
importance of teamwork in engineering projects.
The ultimate aim of this study is to develop the ability to approach engineering problems by
integrating both theoretical and practical skills. In particular, fundamental concepts of mechanical
engineering, such as stress and moment calculations, were thoroughly addressed using both
analytical and digital tools.
First Question
Introduction
This research aims to analyze the strength of a mechanical system where the safety and performance
of pins connecting two plates are evaluated under different stress conditions. By varying pin
diameters between 10 mm and 30 mm, the study examines the effects on normal stress, shear stress,
and bearing stress using engineering principles such as the Strength Safety Factor and Hooke's Law.
Conclusion
The analysis demonstrates that the system is safe for pin diameters between 10-15 mm and 23-30
mm, as stresses remain within allowable limits. However, diameters between 15-23 mm may lead to
structural failures. These findings confirm the need for careful design considerations to ensure both
safety and efficiency in mechanical systems.
Second Question
Introduction
This study investigates the strength analysis of a mechanical system by examining the stress and
deformation distributions in pins at designated points under horizontal forces. The analysis focuses
on determining the safety of the design, optimizing pin diameters, and proposing alternative design
solutions based on principles such as Hooke's Law, normal stress, and shear stress theories.
Conclusion
The results of the analysis confirm that the stresses in the system remain within the allowable limits
for the steel material used. The design ensures safety and structural integrity without risk of failure or
deformation. This comprehensive analysis not only validates the current design but also offers
insights for future optimizations and alternative design approaches.
Third Question
Conclusion
This project has successfully combined fundamental principles of mechanical engineering with real-
world applications, enhancing students' theoretical and practical knowledge. The key takeaways from
this study can be summarized as follows:
4. Importance of Teamwork:
Collaborative group work emphasized the critical role of effective communication and task
distribution in the success of engineering projects. This further illustrated the significance of
teamwork in professional engineering practices.
In conclusion, this project has equipped students with the ability to address engineering challenges
through a systematic approach that combines analytical reasoning and modern computational tools.
Moreover, it has provided valuable insights into teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. The
skills and knowledge gained from this study will not only benefit academic pursuits but also serve as a
foundation for future professional endeavors.
