1.

Define Electrical safety

Safety is defined as a precautionary measure of system to protect us and our belongings during
accident.

2. List two advantage of earthing

Advantages of Earthing:

1.Earthing is the safe and the best method of offering safety. We know that the earth’s potential is
zero and is treated as Neutral. Since low equipment is connected to earth using low resistance wire,
balancing is achieved.

2.Metal can be used in electrical installations without looking for its conductivity, proper earthing
ensures that metal does not transfer current."

3. Define electric current

Electric current is the time rate of change of charge, measured in amperes(A). i = dq/dt

A direct current (DC) is a current that remains constant with time.

An alternating current (AC) is a current that varies sinusoidally with time"

4. State Ohm’s law.

Ohm’s law states that the voltage (v) across a resistor is directly proportional to the current (i)
flowingthrough the resistor, at constant temperature. ie, v α i ,v = iR, where R is the resistance (Ω).

5. State Kirchoff’s Voltage law.

It states that the sum of the voltages or electrical potential differences in a closed network is zero.

6. what are the uses of wire stripper "

A wire stripper is a small, hand-held device used to strip the electrical insulation from electric wires.
wire stripper is a portable handheld tool used by workers, especially electricians, for removing the
protective coating of an electric wire in order to replace or repair the wire

7. what is Dc motor?

A machine that converts dc power into mechanical energy is known as dc motor. Its operation is
based on the principle that when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the
conductor experiences a mechanical force. The direction of the force is given by Fleming’s left hand
rule.

8. Define Transformer ?

It is a device which is used to transform electrical energy from one circuit to another circuit.
It has two winding one is primary and another is secondary.

9. What is an Electrical fuse ? What are the types of electrical fuse. "

An electrical fuse is a safety device that operates to provide protection against the overflow of
current in an electrical circuit.Fuses are of two types: AC fuses and DC fuses
10. what is meant of induction motor ? An induction motor derives its name from the current in the
rotor conductor is motion of rotor conductor relative to the magnetic field developed by the stator
current

11. what is thermocouple

A thermocouple is a sensor used to measure temperature. Thermocouples consist of two wire legs
made from different metals. The wires legs are welded together at one end ,creating a junction .this
junction is where the temperature is measured. When the junction experiences a change in
temperature , a voltage is created .the voltage can then be interpreted to calculate the

12. What is transduer

A trasnducer is an electronic device that converts energy from one form to another.common
example include microphones, loudspeakers,thermometers

13. Definition of Resistance

The proerty of material whih opposes the flow of current through it is called resisatnec. It is the
ability of a circuit to oppose the flow of electron. The unit of resistance is ohm and it is denoted by
"R"

14. List five applications of LEDs.

LEDs are used in LED displays, TV Backlighting, Dimming of lights, Smartphone Backlighting, and
Automotive Lighting.

1. What are the materials used for wiring?

Wire Materials: The most common material for electrical wire is copper and aluminum, these are not
the best conductors however they are abundant and low cost. Gold is also used in applications
because it is corrosion resistant. "

2. Explain the belowe mention hand tolls a) nose plier b) wire cutter "

Nose pliers:NOSE pliers with long slender jaws used for grasping small or thin objects.

Pliers are used to grip, position, tighten, loosen, and cut certain metal elements.

Five types of pliers: slip-joint, water-pump, linesman, locking and needle-nose.

wire cutter: Wire cutters are tools for cutting wire.

This wire cutter is a small and simple tool for cable or wire stripping.

Wire cutters are commonly used to cut copper, brass, iron, aluminum, and steel wire.

It is the most versatile tool used by craftsmen and technicians to repair a particular item"

3. Mention the uses multimeter.

For measuring DC voltage, put the selecting knob in DC MODE

For measuring AC voltage, put the selecting knob in ac mode

For measuring Temperature, put the selecting knob in 0C

For measuring Resistance, put the selecting knob in Ω

For measuring Diode & continuity, put the selecting knob in

For measuring Capacitance, put the selecting knob in

For measuring Frequency, put the selecting knob in Hz %

For measuring milli-amperes, put the selecting knob in ma, and press yellow button for setting AC
and DC

For measuring Amperes, put the selecting knob in A, and press yellow button for setting AC and DC

When it is not used keep knob in OFF conditioN

4. What is ELCB? Application of ELCB.

ELCB or Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker is a protection device that protects against earth leakage.
Initially, the earth leakage circuit breaker were voltage detection devices, now they are switched to
current sensing devices. Application : ELCB is used for protection against current leakage. The
current leakage causes electrical shock and faults in the system. It breaks the circuit instantly to
prevents damage to the connected circuits. They are essential in wet locations having increased risks
of electrical shocks.

5. What are types of fuses and explain any two fuses.

1. CARTRIGE FUSES 2.AUTOMOTIVE FUSES 3.3. RESETTABLE FUSES/POLYFUSE

4. SEMICONDUCTOR FUSES 5. OVERVOLTAGE SUPPRESSION .

a) over voltage suppressiion:

Sometimes voltage spikes can be harmful to circuits too, and often an overvoltage protection device
is used with a fuse to protect against both voltage and current spikes
b) AUTOMOTIVE FUSES : these fuses are specifically designed for automotive systems that run
up to 32V and occasionally 42V. They come in ‘blade’ form (a transparent plastic envelope with flat
contacts) and are colour coded according to rated current. Some of these types are also used in
other high-power circuits."

6. Mention the application of single phase induction motor

The various applications of the motor are as follows:

>These motors are used for the loads of higher inertia where frequent starting is required.

>Used in pumps and compressors

>Used in the refrigerator and air conditioner compressors.

>They are also used for conveyors and machine tools."

7. What is a Transducer?types of transducer

An electrical or electronic device that follows the principle of transduction is known as transducers.
These devices are installed at the boundaries of automation and control systems. Temperature
transducers (e.g. a thermocouple)

Pressure transducers (e.g. a diaphragm)

Displacement transducers (e.g. LVDT)

Oscillator transducer.

Flow transducers.

Inductive Transducer.

1. Mention the application of dc motor

2. Explain transformer principle of operation transformer.

The transformer works on the principle of Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction and mutual
induction. a transformer carries the below operations:

Transfer of electrical energy from circuit to another

Transfer of electrical power through electromagnetic induction

Electric power transfer without any change in frequency

Two circuits are linked with mutual inductionhere are mainly two types of windings. Primary
windings and secondary windings.

Primary winding: The set of turns of windings to which supply current is fed.

Secondary winding: The set of turns of winding from which output is taken."
