READ ME:

In TOK our course is made up of:

6 areas of knowledge (AOKS): Mathematics, Natural sciences (biology,
chemistry etc), Human Sciences (psychology, economics etc), History and Art.
These are academic areas of study that we often focus on to discuss the way
we produce knowledge in those AOKs. For example the way we produce or
interpret knowledge in Art is very different to Mathematics.
5 optional themes (OTs): Technology, Politics, Language, Indigenous Societies
and Religion. These OTs are affiliations that may affect the way WE view,
create and interpret knowledge indifferent AOKs.

OTs can affect the way we view knowledge in different AOKs. For example our
understanding of Historical events has changed because of development of
technology such as carbon dating. Or as individuals we often accept or reject
information if it is aligned with our pre existing political beliefs. For example an
American Republican may be less inclined to accept a knowledge claim from a
Democrat regardless of its validity. AOKs can also change OTs. For example
Technology has changed the way we use language, we have not only added to
our language (think about all the terms we use just because of
technology/social media) but also we have moved from a written language to
imagery as language such as emojis.

TASK 2:
Take a paper. Try to make 4 connections of how AOKs and OTs can
influence each other. For the example please use one from your own
subject.

In TOK we look at what might influence the way we deal with knowledge. What
influences your subject? If you make a connection in your class this is TOK.
