PRACTICAL 1

Types of Computers

A. Analogous Computers: -
Analog computers process analog data. Temperature, pressure, weight, depth,
and voltage are a few examples of this type of data. These have an infinite range
of values and are continuous quantities. The first computers were analog, and
they laid the groundwork for today’s digital computers.
B. Digital Computers: -
Digital Computers in digital computers, letters, numbers, and other special
symbols are represented by digits. On-off (ON-OFF) inputs are used by digital
computers, and ON-OFF signals are also generated by them. An ON is often
represented by a 1 and an OFF by a 0, respectively. A digital computer is capable
of processing both numerical and non-numerical data. In addition to doing
fundamental arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division, it can also perform logical operations.

PRACTICAL 3

Create a document with the text given below and save it as Practical 3.Doc

A Read only Memory is a memory unit that performs the read operation only, it does not
have a write capability. This implies that binary information stored in a ROM is made
permanent during the hardware production of the unit and cannot be altered by writing
different words into it. Whereas a RAM is a general-purpose device whose contents can
be altered during the computational process, a ROM is restricted to reading words that
are permanently stored within the unit. The binary information to be stored specified by
the designer, is then embedded in the unit to form the required interconnection pattern. Do
the following:
a) Count the occurrences of the word “ROM” in the above document.
b) Replace ROM with Read Only Memory in the entire document
c) Underline the text Read Only Memory
d) Make an auto correct entry for ROM and it should be replaced by Read Only
Memory

PRACTICAL 4
Perform the following tasks in Ms- Word.

conventional typewriter has. In addition to it, a word processor not only removes all the
limitations of typewriters but also offers useful features that cannot be even dreamt of
with typewriter.
Also, if same textual matter is to be reproduced with minor changes, retyping is the only
option in typewriters. On the other hand, the same situation can easily tackle with in word
processor using its mail merge feature. Mail merge feature allows you to combine text and
data without requiring any retyping.
The word processing originated way back in 1964 when special typewriters, MIST were
launched by IBM. These machines were capable of storing documents on magnetic
storage. The stored data could easily be reprinted when desired.
