Project Report

Part B:
You are provided with four different customers, each with unique requirements for their PV system.
Modify the system design separately for each customer to meet their specific needs while maintaining
the overall system rating (kWp) from Part A. Additionally, you MUST provide the technical modifications
you made to achieve each customer's requirement.

Customer 01: Maximize energy yield.

For maximum energy yield we can change the tilt angle, using bifacial panels, usingtracking system in
panels etc. For my system previously I have designed the system (11.50 Wp) for annual energy yield
13,354 kWh in part (a).

To maximize energy yield I changed my tilt angle to 31o from 30o. This impact on annual energy yield to
13,522 kWh. (PV*Sol file is attached)

 Customer 01 should also increase the frequency to wash panels to reduce soiling and maximizing
the energy output.

Customer 02: Minimize the LCOE and Payback Period.

For part a I have calculated the LCOE and Payback period as:
Capital Cost + Operation & Maintaince Cost + Replacement Cost − Salvage Value
𝐿𝐶𝑂𝐸 =
Total Lifetime Energy Output (kWh)

(1 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 + 20000 + 600000 − 50000) 𝑃𝐾𝑅

𝐿𝐶𝑂𝐸 =
(13354)𝑘𝑊ℎ ∗ 20

𝐿𝐶𝑂𝐸 = 5.88 𝑃𝐾𝑅/𝑘𝑊ℎ

𝑈𝑝𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝐼𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 1 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛

𝑃𝑎𝑦𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑑 = = = 5 𝑌𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠
𝐴𝑛𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 13354 ∗ 16.232
Now we used to minimize the LCOE and Payback Period, which means that we have to minimize the
upfront cost and increase that energy yield to achieve the customer gioal. As for customer 01 I have
increased the energy yield i.e. 13,522 kWh per year so we can use this increased energy yield. Also I am
increasing the life of PV modules to more 05 years which is not significantly effecting the upfront cost. For
keeping the same Wp rating, cost can not be minimized as it can may effect the energy yield. So,
(1 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 + 20000 + 600000 − 50000) 𝑃𝐾𝑅 𝑃𝐾𝑅
𝐿𝐶𝑂𝐸 = = 4.70
(13522)𝑘𝑊ℎ ∗ 25 𝑘𝑊ℎ

𝑈𝑝𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝐼𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 1 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛

𝑃𝑎𝑦𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑑 = = = 4.5 𝑌𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠
𝐴𝑛𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 13522 ∗ 16.232

Customer 03: Minimize the Installation Area.

For minimizing the area we need to use higher efficiency PV module. For that purpose I have used a higher
efficiency PV module LR5-72 HTH 585 M (LONGI Solar). I used two strings of 9 modules which gives me
around 10.53 kWp which yield me 11,037 kWh per year.

Customer 4: Maximize energy output during summer months (March to October):

In summers tilt angle calculated as:

Page | 2
𝑇𝑖𝑙𝑡 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 = ∅ − 15°
For Lahore, latitude (∅) is 31.5o, so tilt angle will be calculated as:

𝑇𝑖𝑙𝑡 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 = 31.5 − 15° = 16.5°

Now putting this tilt angle in PV*Sol to estimate the energy yield per year.
