ANNEXURE I

GUIDELINES FOR FINAL YEAR B.TECH PROJECT REPORT FOR IT/ITNS

STUDENTS

The order in the report:

b. Certificate (The Candidate’s Certificate shall be in double line spacing using font
style Times New Roman, Font Size 12, as per enclosed format)
c. Acknowledgement with signature (Should not exceed one page with the student’s
signature and name at the bottom , should be in double line spacing using font style
Times New Roman, Font Size 12)
d. Abstract (Should not exceed two pages, should be in double line spacing using font
style Times New Roman, Font Size 12 )
e. List of contents ( with page numbers)
f. List of figures with page numbers
g. List of tables with page numbers
h. Chapter 1, 2… (as decided by guide)
i. References (as per the format given in point number 8)
j. Plagiarism Report (less than 20%, generated from Turnitin))
k. Appendix (It will contain the List of Publications (if any) and any other additional
information which a student may not be interested in writing in the main text)

General Instructions:

1. Font Style: Times new roman (in the entire report)

2. Font size: Text: 12

Chapter Headings: Refer the following example
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION (All caps,16size)
1.1 BACKGROUND (All caps, 14size)
1.1.1 Literature Survey (14size)
Table and Figure Captions: (11size, Italics)
Text inside a table (if any table is present): (10size)

3. Page Margins: Top = 25mm, Left= 35 to 40 mm, Right= 25mm, Bottom= 25mm

4. Page Numbering: All page numbers should be typed at the centre of bottom of the
page. The preliminary pages of the Project report (such as Title page,
Acknowledgement, Table of Contents etc.) should be numbered in lower case Roman
numerals (eg. i,ii,…). On the title page (first physical page of the report) the number is
not required, and the page is not counted in the pagination. The page immediately
following the title page shall be numbered (i). Pages in the body (all chapters and
references) of the text should be numbered in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3). The first page
of the first chapter is considered to be the first page of the report body (numbered 1).

5. Numbering of Chapters/Headings/Subheadings: The numbering of Chapters,

Division and Sub-divisions should be done using Arabic numerals only and further
decimal notation should be used for numbering the divisions and sub-divisions within
a Chapter. For examples sub-division 4 under division 3 belonging to Chapter 2 should
be numbered as 2.3.4. The caption for the sub-division should immediately follow the
number assigned to it.

6. Numbering of Tables/Figures: Refer the following example for numbering of

table/figure/equation:
Consider a chapter 3 and we have to number its 2nd figure. Then the numbering of that
figure will be ‘Figure 3.2: label of the figure’. Similar rules numbering will be
applicable for tables and equations as well. Further, tables and figures should be centre
justified. Table captioning should be placed above the table whereas the figure
captioning should be placed below the figure. If a table is spanning over 2 pages, then
the top line of table continued into the next page should, for example read Table 3.2
(continued) placed centrally.

7. Numbering of Equations: The rules of numbering the equations are similar to those
of tables and figures. Thus for example, if an equation appears in Chapter 3 and it’s the
3rd equation of that chapter, then it should be numbered as 3.2. While referring to this
equation in the body of the Project- report it should be referred to as Equation (3.2)
For example,

Sum= a+ b (3.2)

8. References: The references should be listed in the order as cited in the report. They
should be written in IEEE format.
