Preface
Before you receive your Silver Play Button or make your first
$10,000 on YouTube, you must grow your channel. However, this
is easier said than done.

Growing a channel on YouTube isn’t easy. Unfortunately, many

creators make growing on the platform even harder by not
understanding what mechanisms must be optimized to achieve
YouTube growth and success.

Fortunately, this cheat sheet will demystify the areas of focus that
will have the most impact on your channel’s growth so that all of
your YouTube goals can be realized. They are the following:

Supply and Demand Video Ideation

Supply and Demand
YouTube is a search engine and a video platform but more
importantly, it’s a market.

Within any market exists the forces of supply and demand. These
two forces will directly impact the appeal of your channel in a
niche or the video ideas that you generate. These two economic
forces are defined as follows:

Demand equates to the number of

users who want to watch content on a
particular topic.

For example, there is a measurable

demand for the number of people who
DEMAND are interested in personal finance
content, sports content, etc.

Supply equates to how many videos on

that topic exist on the platform.

For example, there could be 1,000

different videos that explain how to
hold your breath under water for more
SUPPLY than 60 seconds.

Within the supply and demand model is price. In economics,
price is determined by a change in either supply and/or demand.
Price goes up when demand increases, and supply remains
constant or when demand remains constant and supply
decreases.

Put another way, when there is a large gap between supply and
demand, this is where the potential in a niche or topic lies. If
you’re wondering what price means in the context of YouTube,
price is essentially the value of that niche or video in the market,
with respect to its overall view potential.

If your goal is rapid channel growth, then you should be working
to identify niches or video ideas that align to the principles of
supply and demand. What does this look like?

From a niche perspective, this involves identifying niches with

minimal competition (low supply). From a video perspective, this
this is where demand for a video idea is excessively high or
where few other videos on a particular topic exist.

Video Ideation
The quality of your video ideas will make or break your channel’s
success. The right ideas will prompt significant channel growth.
Poor video ideas will cause your channel growth to flounder. This
statement is true despite how appealing your titles happen to be
or how well your thumbnails are designed. As the saying goes,
“you can’t put lipstick on a pig”.

As mentioned above, video ideas are also subject to the forces of

supply and demand. For example, a completely unique video idea
or one with few other competitors (i.e. low supply) will be of high
value in the market (assuming sufficient demand).

Demand will impact how many total viewers your videos can
reach (total addressable market). The more demand, the more
growth potential. To leverage supply and demand in your favor,
three video types should be employed.

time researching and formulating engaging titles and thumbnails
is essential to channel growth.

These are the best practices for each of these two components
that make up video packaging.
