1. GENERAL

The scope of this method statement is to identify the procedure, responsibilities,


and safety requirements for Modification of Sprinkler piping in KNPC HO Data
Center at third Floor as per Drawings ref. #FF/01 and FF/02

1.1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that all information,
materials, tools, equipment, manpower and supervision are available for the
execution of the work.

1.2 ABBREVIATION

Company : Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

EMS : Environmental Management System.

MS : Method of Statement.

CTRA : Critical Task Risk Assessment

PTW : Permit to work.

2. REFRENCE

2.1 Safe work practices work permit system &Critical Task risk assessment

(HSE-TSSA-06-2029.REV.8).

2.2 Best work permit issuer & Executer Scheme guidelines (SHE-TSSA-08-

1126- REV.1).

2.3 Scaffolds and ladders safe work practice (SHE-TSSA-06-2015).

2.4 HSE Guideline for Contractors (HSE-TSSA-03-1101 Rev.2).

2.5 Works at Height safe work practices (HSE-TSSA-06-2015).

2.6 Safe work procedure on welding, cutting and heating works (HSE-TSSA-06-

2011).

3. LOCATION

This method of statement covers requirement of use of Modification of Sprinkler


piping in KNPC HO Data Center at third Floor as per Drawings ref. #FF/01 and
FF/02.
4. RESOURCES

The following personnel shall be involved and responsible for the activities
incorporated in this method statement/procedure and to ensure that safety and
quality aspects are adhere to:
 Mechanical Engineer
 Mechanical Supervisor
 Mechanical Technicians
4.1 The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to ensure that this method statement/
Procedure is understood and is properly implemented by his subordinates. He
shall ensure that subordinates to maintain productivity and quality.

4.2 The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for inspecting in accordance with


KNPC Specification and procedure of Mechanical work and retention of
reports and record.

4.3 The Mechanical Technicians shall ensure safe and efficient works
environment.

5. REQUIREMENTS OF EQIPMENTS & MATERIALS

6. SAFETY

6.1 Reporting

 All incident needs to be reported to the discipline supervisor and HSE


Supervisor immediately, follow the report route to Contractor and
Company.

6.2 Personnel Injury

 All incidents/emergency shall be reported to GSD incident commander,


this will be informed to all workers and contact numbers will be posted
at site.

 First aid will be done on site by authorized first aider. The first aid box
will be made available by Subcontractor. After providing initial first
aid the injured person will be transported to medical center in
ambulance for further evaluation and treatment if required.

 Vehicle shall be kept standby for emergency at site at all times while
work is being performed.

6.3 Fire Prevention and protection

The following items shall be paid attention to prevent fire hazard.


 Maintain well housekeeping practices at all times.

 Fire extinguishers shall be maintained effective by monthly inspection


or refilled. The expired period shall be marked on the surface of the fire
extinguishers.

 Smoking is prohibited except designated locations. Allowed areas for
smoking shall be well ventilated.

 Report fire occurrence, regardless of its scale, to the Supervisor for


action.

 All vehicles/equipment shall be provided with a portable fire


extinguisher with KNPC inspection sticker.

 All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be provided.

6.4 Welfare Facility

 Drinking water will be continuously available on site in plastic water


igloos. Supervisor is responsible to ensure new supply of drinking
water is available before the existing drinking water has been
consumed.

 HSE Supervisors will be available on site to provide advice on HSE


matters and monitor for the safe compliance.

6.5 Safety Instruction:

 Prior to starting any activity, a detailed Job Safety Task Instruction and
TBT are to be carried out at the work location to discuss the work to be
done and the steps to be taken, the inherent hazards as well as those
specific to the work location and the mitigation methods to be taken
against the identified hazards.
 During the task instruction, it must be ensured that all workers
understand their responsibilities.

 All work permits to work are to be completed and received by


authorized personnel only.

 Works shall be coordinated at all times and confirmed with KNPC.

 All works will be executed in accordance with company HSSE

regulations.

 All activities will be suspended immediately in case of any emergency.

 Good housekeeping standards shall be maintained at all times.

 Working at height more than 1.8 m shall have safe work platform with

guard rail system and fall arrest system (Harness).

7. PROCEDURES

7.1 Transportation and storage of materials.

 Materials will be transported through the boom truck where it will be


stacked.

 Broken and rejected materials shall be stacked separately and removed


from site as soon as possible.

7.2 Composition and Erection.

 Prior to starting the work main contractor shall ensure that zone control
station is isolated and the pipe network is drained from water

 For removal of sprinkler pipe branches will dismantled using wrench


while cutting the main pipe will be done using an Electric saber saw to
avoid any fire risk from Sparkles.

 After removal of sprinklers from the required area the main pipe shall

insolated with end cap.

 During installation of end cap Critical Risk Assessment shall be

followed
