Equipment needed: Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
Activity explanation: Students will read the book, Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae, and create their own storyline for what would happen if Gerald had not found his song. They will interact with other students and create a resolution for what Gerald could’ve done to dance with the other animals. Safety concerns: Make sure to give direct parameters so violent language does not occur. Activity explanation Organization What do you need to tell the students for them How many students will be in a group? to perform the activity? Where will the students go to do the activity? Introduction of Activity Students and I will be gathered in a circle on 5 Minutes Students and I will review about the floor. what happened in the book. I then will ask some questions: - How do you think Gerald felt when the animals laughed at him? - Should Gerald feel sad because other animals said he couldn’t dance? - How does Gerald overcome his own doubt that he can dance? How does the cricket help Gerald? - Are there some things that you are not good at right now that you may be good at in the future? Can you come up with examples?
