Reading Comphrehension

This part has three texts with questions on each. Read the text carefully and then
look at the questions which follow. For each question, four possible answers are
given by reading carefully; you will be able to choose which of the four the best
answer to the question is.

TEXT: 1

Long ago, when the first man was not quite finished, Heart and Beard lived
together. They had a farm where they grew beans, maize and millet, which are all
good food crops. When they gathered the harvest, they put all food in one store.
Whenever Heart got his share of food, Beard got exactly the same share.
One day, Beard was cleaning the food store, when he noticed that some food was
missing. Beard wondered why the food was missing. He thought a thief must be
stealing the food when it was dark. That night when Heart and Beard went to bed,
Beard only pretended to be asleep. Can you guess what happened? After
sometimes, Heart got out of bed and began stealing the food, which was in the
store. Beard could not help it feeling angry at what he saw. He stopped pretending
to be asleep and shouted at Heart: “You are the thief who stole the food”.
Heart picked up the food he stole and ran away. Beard followed him through the
fields, past a big baobab tree; over a small river until they reached a village.
When they reached the village (which belonged to the first man) Heart began to
feel tired. He was looking for a place where he could hide. Man was standing with
his mouth wide open. The reason his mouth was open is that he was surprised to
see Beard chasing Heart towards him.
Heart ran straight up the face of the Man and hurried inside Man‟s mouth, where
he hid himself from Beard. When man felt something pop into his mouth, he
closed it at once. Beard chased Heart but was just too late to get into man‟s
mouth. So he was left outside where he remained waiting for Heart to come out.
To date, Beard waits for Heart on Man‟s chin.

I travelled to South America on a cargo boat, which took a whole month to
reach Buenos Aires.
Before I set sail, I was sure I had in me more of the pioneering spirit than even
Columbus himself, but I soon decided that riding the waves was not one of my
strong points, for the smell of engines in our small ship and the constant
vibration tuned my stomach and I experienced none of the joys of the cruel sea.
In fact I was horribly ill for almost the entire voyage, although I was just able to
emerge at the end of it to enjoy the unbelievable beauties of Rio with it‟s
mountains behind the gigantic blue butterflies and the blue and white foam of
the enormous breakers on its honey coloured sand.

This part has three texts with questions on each. Read the text carefully and then

TEXT: 1

Long ago, when the first man was not quite finished, Heart and Beard lived
together. They had a farm where they grew beans, maize and millet, which are all
good food crops. When they gathered the harvest, they put all food in one store.
Whenever Heart got his share of food, Beard got exactly the same share.
One day, Beard was cleaning the food store, when he noticed that some food was
missing. Beard wondered why the food was missing. He thought a thief must be
stealing the food when it was dark. That night when Heart and Beard went to bed,
Beard only pretended to be asleep. Can you guess what happened? After
sometimes, Heart got out of bed and began stealing the food, which was in the
store. Beard could not help it feeling angry at what he saw. He stopped pretending
to be asleep and shouted at Heart: “You are the thief who stole the food”.
Heart picked up the food he stole and ran away. Beard followed him through the
fields, past a big baobab tree; over a small river until they reached a village.
When they reached the village (which belonged to the first man) Heart began to
feel tired. He was looking for a place where he could hide. Man was standing with
his mouth wide open. The reason his mouth was open is that he was surprised to
see Beard chasing Heart towards him.
Heart ran straight up the face of the Man and hurried inside Man‟s mouth, where
he hid himself from Beard. When man felt something pop into his mouth, he
closed it at once. Beard chased Heart but was just too late to get into man‟s
mouth. So he was left outside where he remained waiting for Heart to come out.
To date, Beard waits for Heart on Man‟s chin.

I travelled to South America on a cargo boat, which took a whole month to reach
Buenos Aires.
Before I set sail, I was sure I had in me more of the pioneering spirit than even
Columbus himself, but I soon decided that riding the waves was not one of my
strong points, for the smell of engines in our small ship and the constant vibration
tuned my stomach and I experienced none of the joys of the cruel sea.
In fact I was horribly ill for almost the entire voyage, although I was just able to
emerge at the end of it to enjoy the unbelievable beauties of Rio with it‟s
mountains behind the gigantic blue butterflies and the blue and white foam of the
enormous breakers on it‟s honey coloured sand.
