Sub: Limits for Wheel Set dimension variations and wheel wear
of WAP5, WAP7 & WAG9 three phase electric locomotives.

The limits for wheel diameter differences and wear limits for WAP5
locomotive have been standardised earlier vide this office letter of even no. dtd.
18/21.10.2002. Although permissible limits for WAG9 locomotive have been
specified in its maintenance manual, some discrepancy is observed.
Permissible variations for WAP7 locomotive have not been specified so far. The
issue of standardisation of limits of wheel set variation and wear limits for
WAG9 and WAP7 locomotives have been requested by ELS, Ghaziabad and
Central Railway vide their letters referred above.

2. The limits for wheel diameter difference for WAP7 and WAG9
locomotives have now been finalised as follows. These limits are same as for
WAP5 locomotive also.

For Wheels Preferable limit at the time of Permissible service


wheel reprofiling/for new wheel limit
On same axle 0.5 mm 2.5 mm
On same bogie 2 mm 4 mm
On same loco 15 mm 20 mm

2.1 While permissible service limit should not be exceeded, limit indicated for
reprofiling/new wheel is only preferable to ensure adequate margin over service
limit.

2.2 The limits of wheel set dimensions of WAG9 locomotive given above
supersedes the limits given in Maintenance & Repair Manual, Vol. D-1 of
WAG9 locomotives.

3. Following wheel wear limits may be followed for WAP5, WAP7 and WAG9
three-phase electric locomotives:
