2. The graph of a network is shown in Figure Q2, with the branches of a tree T
marked as solid lines and its links as dotted lines.
i. List all the fundamental cut sets. Then, express all the tree branch currents
in terms of the link currents.
ii. List all the fundamental loops. Then, express all link voltages in terms of
the tree branch voltages .

3. Consider a network having Figure Q3 as its graph. Write down the KCL
equations at each node ( a, b, c, d, e and f), with the element currents being
designated as i 1 , i 2 , i 3 , i 4 , i 5 , i 6 , i 7 and i 8 . Put the equations in matrix form
such that Ai= 0, where i= [i 1 , i 2 , i 3 , i 4 , i 5 , i 6 , i 7 , i 8 ] is a column vector and A is
the augmented nodal incidence matrix.

4. For each of the given fundamental loop matrices, D, the rows I, II and III
denote the loops while the columns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 denote the branches.
Draw the oriented graph by assuming branches 1, 2 and 3 as tree branches,
and 4, 5 and 6 as the co-tree links. (Be sure to label the branch numbers
and orientations clearly.)

5. Module Test 1 Question 2020/2021

A network is given with its corresponding graph as shown in Figure Q4.
(i) Obtain the voltage source matrix, E and current source matrix, I.
(ii) Hence, use nodal analysis technique to obtain the branch currents, i
and branch voltages, e. Note that you are required to show the
resultant matrix from each of the 4 equations applied for the analysis
technique.

Self-assessment Question
6. For the circuit in Figure Q6:
i. Draw a directional network graph. Then, using mesh analysis, find all the
branch voltages, e and branch currents, i.
ii. Based on the network graph drawn in part (i), draw a tree and its
corresponding co-tree. Then, using cutset analysis, find all the branch
voltages, e and branch currents, i.
iii. Hence, find the power dissipated by the 3  resistor which is in p arallel
with the current source.
Note: Use the directions given in the circuit to obtain your graph.
