On Sunday, October 27th, 2024, as part of his campaign, Donald Trump held a rally at Madison
Square Garden. The indoor arena was filled to capacity by “MAGA” (“Make America Great
Again”) supporters. This event marks the beginning of the final week of campaigning for the
former 45th President in a fiercely competitive presidential race. This event was reported among
the conservative, centrist, and liberal news organizations. In order to understand how news
outlets approach the covering of political events, it is vital to dissect their reporting without bias.
The goal is to analyze how facts and opinions become a blurred line when influenced by political
ideologies. An analysis will be conducted on how articles from The Guardian, The Hill, and Fox
news covered the Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden by examining the differences
Among the news outlets to report was The Guardian, a British Newspaper with a left leaning
bias. The title of the article, “Trump fills Madison Square Garden with anger, vitriol and racist
threats”, reflects the strongly stated opinions of the newspaper. They immediately begin the
article by highlighting the controversial comments made in the rally. This sets off the continuous
critical tone of the article. Quoting one of the speakers’ “jokes” about Puerto Rico. The article
emphasized the parallels between Trump’s rally and a particular Nazi rally held in 1939 at a New
York City venue that shares the name Madison Square Garden. The Hill, a centrist, US political
website, covered the rally as well. The article maintained a neutral tone, with an emphasis over
reporting rather than stating an opinion. The title, “5 takeaways from Trump’s Madison Square
Garden rally” reflects this neutrality. The article highlighted key takeaways from the rally. They

point out that Trump does not delve into policies and tends to repeat the same rhetoric from
previous speeches. After reporting on the rally, the article provides an unbiased overview of the
controversies surrounding it, without going into too much detail. Fox News, a conservative news
channel, covered the rally in a buoyant fashion. The article titled, “Trump, powerhouse guests
rock packed MSG with historic rally” reflects on the positive aspects of the rally like the guests,
the energy and attendance turnout. They highlighted his popularity and concentrated on Trump’s
When comparing, there is a clear distinction in the tone and goals each article sets out to achieve.
For instance, The Guardian draws parallels to evoke a sense of alarm about the current political
atmosphere. Fox News portrays the rally as a success in order to energize their base. The Hill
Media has an imposing influence on politics. Events such as rallies and debates, are often subject
to scrutiny, exaggerated and altered in the media. This leads to a skewed perception of the
candidates and their stances. The reporting on former president Trump's most recent rally was no
different.
