1. Show that the function f (z) = |xy| is not regular at the origin, although Cauchy-Riemann equations are satisfied at
the origin.
2. Prove that the following functions are analytic and also find their derivatives using the definition. (a) z 3 ; (b) e−z ; (c)
sin z; (d) cosh z;
3. Show that the Cauchy-Riemann equations are satisfied at every point.

(a) f (z) = z 3
(b) f (z) = 3z 2 + 5z − 6i

4. Show that the given function is not analytic at any point. a. f (z) = Re(z) b. f (z) = y + ix c. f (z) = 4z − 6z̄ + 3 d.

(b) f (z) = 3x2 y 2 − 6x2 y 2 i; coordinate axes

(c) f (z) = x3 + 3xy 2 − x + i y 3 + 3x2 y − y ; coordinate axes
