Method to find impedance

Since a voltage amplifier is driven by a voltage source

during normal operation, and since all independent sources must be set to zero, the
input port in Fig. (b) must be shorted to represent a zero voltage source. That is, the
procedure
for calculating the output impedance is identical to that used for obtaining the Thevenin
impedance of a circuit

4
Input Impedance of CE stages

Input Impedance increases than conventional

CE stage.

5
Advantage of having Increased Input Impedance

If Rin>> Rsig, vi will be almost equal to

vsig
So, there will be no loading effect on the
input applied to the amplifier if it shows a
higher impedance at the input (Rin)

CE stage with emitter resistor provides

increased input impedance.

6
Why AC Coupling is necessary?

Thus, the Microphone disturbs the bias points of the BJT.

7
Importance of DC Blocker

The Capacitor C1 acts as open circuit for DC

quantities.
Hence no DC current passes through the microphone.

Thus, the bias point /DC voltage at VX remains

independent of the resistance offered by the
microphone.

Thus, AC coupling is necessary at the input of

amplifiers to prevent such loading effect.
C1 acts as DC blocker and short circuit for AC
signals.

12
Concept of Bypass capacitor
The input impedance is lowered

The Capacitor C2 acts like a bypass capacitor which acts as short for ac analysis and
open for dc analysis.

C2 is large enough to act as a short circuit for signal frequencies of

interest.
