(GRADE 4-10)

Philippine Informal reading Inventory (Phil-IRI)


 a classroom-based reading assessment
 assesses the learner’s interaction with print orally and silently

Stages in the Administration of Phil-IRI (English and Filipino)

Stage 1: Initial Screening using the Phil-IRI Group Screening Test (GST)
o identify the learners who are performing below grade level expectation in reading and should undergo the
Phil-IRI for further assessment of reading difficulties.
o Use the story given by the DepEd (I will send the link for easy access)administer it for 60 mins.

NOTE: if a learner passed in the GST no need for him/her to undergo STAGE 2(INDIVIDUALIZED
ASSESSMENT/GRADED PASSAGE

NOTE: if a learner failed in the GST there’s a need for him/her to undergo STAGE 2(INDIVIDUALIZED
ASSESSMENT/GRADED PASSAGE

Stage 2: Administration of the Phil-IRI Graded Passages (Pretest)


Step 1: determine the starting point (the story to be use shall be from the DepEd I’ll send the link)
GST SCORE
0-15 given a passage that is 3 levels below his/her grade level
16-27 given a passage that is 2 levels below his/her grade level
Step 2: Compute scores in Word reading and comprehension
FORM TO BE ACCOMPLISH BY THE MASTER TEACHERS
Phil IRI reading level

Independent – the level at which a learner can read and comprehend a levelled text on his/her own
Instructional– the level at which a learner can read and comprehend a levelled text with some guidance
Frustration – the level at which a learner experiences much difficulty in reading and comprehending a levelled text

FORM TO BE ACCOMPLISH BY THE READING COORDINATOR


Stage 3: Provision of Specialized Instruction/Intervention
Once all the data describing the learner’s performance in reading has been gathered, the teacher may design
an intervention program (remedial reading) or adjust classroom set up

Stage 4: Administration of the Phil-IRI Graded Passages (Posttest)


The learners will be re-assessed using the Phil-IRI post test 2 months before the end of the school year.
NOTE: only learners who took the pretest INDIVIDUALIZED ASSESSMENT) will be given the post test.

Step1: Go back to stage 1 and fill out the needed forms


Step 2: Fill out form 5 post test (reading coordinator)
