1) In the Bohr model of hydrogen atom, the electron revolves around the nucleus in a circular path of
radius 5.1 x 10-11 m at a frequency of 6.8 x 1015 revolutions per second. Calculate the equivalent
current.
(Ans. 1.088 x 10-3 A)
2) A wire of resistance 4 R is bent in the form of a circle. What is the effective resistance between the
ends of the diameter?

3) A given copper wire is stretched to reduce its diameter to half its previous value. What would be its
new resistance?

(Ans. R’ = 16 R)
4) A wire has a resistance of 16 Ω. It is melted and drawn into a wire of half its length. Calculate the
resistance of the new wire. What is the percentage change in its resistance?
(Ans. 4 Ω, 75%)

5) A voltage of 30 V applied across a color coded carbon resistor with first, second and third rings of
blue, black and yellow colors. What is the current flowing through the resistors?
(Ans. 0.5 x 10-4 A)

6) A sets of ‘N’ identical resistors, each of resistance R, when connected in series have an effective
resistance X and when the resistors are connected in parallel their effective resistance is Y. Find the
relation between R, X and Y.

7) Find the resistance between the points (i) A and B (ii) A and D and (iii) A and C of the network.

8) A wire of uniform cross-section and length ‘L’ has a resistance of 16 Ω it is cut into four equal parts.
Each part is stretched uniformly to length L and all the four stretched parts are connected in parallel.
Calculate the total resistance of the combination so formed. Assume that stretching of wire does not
cause any change in the density of its material. (Ans. 16 Ω)

9) The letter A consists of a uniform wire of resistance 1 Ω cm-1. The sides of the letter are 40 cm long
and the crosspiece 10 cm long divides the sides in the ratio 1 : 3 from the apex. Find the resistance
of the letter between the two ends of the legs. (Ans. 66.67 Ω)

10) Calculate the resistance between points A and B for the following networks:

11) Find the equivalent resistance of the circuit shown in figure between the points A and B. Each

13) A uniform wire of resistance 12 Ω is cut into three pieces in the ratio 1:2:3 and the three pieces are
connected to form a triangle. A cell of emf 8 V and internal resistance 1 Ω is connected across the
highest of the three resistor. Calculate the current through each par in the circuit.

18) Two cells of emf 1.5 V and 2.0 V and internal resistances 1 Ω and 2 Ω respectively are connected in
parallel so as to send current in the same direction through an external resistance of 5 Ω.
Draw the circuit diagram. Using Kirchhoff’s laws, calculate (a) Current through each branch of the
Circuit (b) P.D across the 5 Ω resistance. (Ans. 10 / 34 A, 1.47 V)

19) Four cells of identical emf 𝐸, internal resistance r, are connected in series to a variable resistor.The
following graph shows the variation of terminal voltage of the combinationwith the current output.
(i)What is the emf of each cell used?
(ii)For what currentt from the cells, does not maximum power dissipation occur in the circuit?
(iii)Calculate the internal resistance of each cell.

20) Potential differences across terminals of a cell were measured against different currents flowing
through the cell. A graph was drawn which is shown in figure. Determine from the graph
Emf of the cell, internal resistance of the cell and maximum current obtained from the cell.

21) In the circuit shown in (Fig) E, F, G and H are cells of emf 2 V, 1 V, 3 V and 1 V, and their internal
resistances are 2 Ω, 1 Ω, 3 Ω and 1 Ω, respectively Calculate (i) the potential difference between B
and D and (ii) the potential difference across the terminals of each of the cells G and H.

22) In the circiuit digram given the cell E1 and E2 have internal resistance 0.5 Ω and 1.0 Ω respectively.
Calculate thee current in each resistance.

25) 12 cells, each of emf 1.5 V and internal resistance of 0.5 Ω are arranged in ‘m’ rows each contaning
‘n’ cells connected in series, as shown in figure. Calculate the values of ‘m’ and ‘n’ for this the
combination would send maximum current through an extrnal resistance of 1.5 Ω.

26) A resistance R is connected across a cell of emf 𝜀 and internal resistance r. A potentiometer now
measures the potential difference between the terminals of the cell as V. Write the expression for ‘r’
in terms of 𝜀, V and R. Draw the graphical variation of ‘V’ Vs ‘R’. Explain the graph.

27) First a set of n equal resistors of R each are connected in series to a battery of emf E and internal
resistance R. A current I is observed to flow. Then the n resistors are connected in parallel to the
same battery. It is observed that the current is increased 10 times. Find the value of ‘n’?

28) A cell of emf E and internal resistance r is connected to two external resistances R 1 and R2 and a
perfect ammeter. The current in the circuit is measured in four different situations :
i. Without any external resistance in the circuit
ii. With resistance R1 only.
iii. With R1 and R2 in the series combination.
iv. With R1 and R2 in parallel combination.
The currents measured in the four cases are 0.42 A, 1.05 A, 1.4 A and 4.2 A, but necessarily in that
order. Identify the currents corresponding to the four cases mentioned above. Find E,r,R1 & R2

29) In the circuit shown, R1 = 4 Ω, R2 = R3 = 15 Ω and E = 10 V. Calculate the equivalent resistance of


the circuit and the current in each resistor.

30) State Kirchhoff’s rules. Explain briefly how these rules are justified. Using Kirchoff’s rule determine
the value of unknown resistance R in the circuit so that no current flows through 4 Ω resistance. Also
find the potential difference between A and D.

31) A 20 V battery of internal resistance 1 Ω. Is connected to three coils of 12 Ω., 6 Ω. And 4 Ω. In


parallel a resistor of 5 Ω. And a reversed battery (emf = 8 V and internal resistance = 2 Ω.) as shown
in figure. Calculate the current in each resistor and the terminal potential difference across each
battery.

(Ans. 1.2 A, 0.2 A, 0.4 A, 0.6 A, 18.8 V, 10.4 V)

32) A battery of emf 9V and negligible internal resistance is connected to a 3kW resistor. The potential
drop across a part of the resistor (between points A and B in the fig.) is measured by
(i) a 20 kW voltmeter; (ii) a 1 kW voltmeter. In (iii) both the voltmeters are connected across AB.
In which case would you get the (a) highest (b) lowest reading?

33) Find the equivalent resistance of a wire frame shaped as a cube (Fig.) when resistance is measured
between points (a) 1-7; (b) 1-2; (c) 1-3. The resistance of each edge of the frame is R

34) A regular tetrahedron is a pyramid with a triangular base and triangular sides as shown in Figure.
Imagine the six straight lines in Figure are each resistors of resistance ‘R’. Find the equivalent
resistance of the tetrahedron between two vertices.

35) A part of a circuit in steady state, along with the currents flowing in the branches and the resistances,
is shown in the figure. Calculate energy stored in the capacitor of 4μF capacitance.
