Math 6 and Accelerated Math 6

We have uploaded pages from the Little Go Math Book into Edulastic. You can complete
assignments there and it will check the answers for you. If you have your actual little book at
home, you can do the work in the book.

Please email your math teacher with any questions. We will be checking email daily and are
willing to help. Be specific with what Day assignment you are working on and where you are
having difficulty.

Objective: Identify Terms and Coefficients
Instructions: Complete the chart with the expressions below.

Remember:
- Every term that has a variable will have a coefficient.
- There is a hidden coefficient with a variable x. The coefficient is 1.
- Minus signs mean that the next term is negative. 2x − 3y the
coefficient for the term 2x is 2 and the coefficient for the term - 3y is -3.

Expression How many terms? What are the coefficients?

1)
3x + 2 + 6y

2)
2y + 3y

3)
4x + 3 − 6y + 2

4)
x + 2y + 5 + 8x + 3x

5)
7z − 6 + 4x

6)
4 − g

7)
x + 2x + 10 y + 5y

8)
5y + 8

9)
3a − 4b + 6c + 5 − 3

10)
5 + 4w + 3x + 6y − 2 + w

11)
26y + 15x

12)
8 + 23w + 12y

13)
a + 2b − 3c + 4d
Objective: Combine the like terms.
Instructions: Complete the chart with the expressions below.
Remember:
- Circle each term. Remember the operation is part of the term.
- Color code each like term
- Like terms are items that have the same variable or have
no variable (constants)
- Combine terms that you color-coded the same (like terms) using
the operations that go with the term.

In class we used algebra tiles to represent different terms, draw a picture if you need to.
Expression Simplify the expression by combining like terms

1)

3x + 4x

2)

2 - x + 3x

3)

5x + 2 - 4

4)

2x + 5 - 3

5)

x - 3 + 3x

6)

4y + 7 - 2y

7)

5x - 2x + z +6

8)

x - 10 + 1 + 3x

9)

9y - 6y + 3x -2

10)

4z + 7 - 2 - 6z + 3y
