“THE INTERN”

REACTION PAPER

The intern movie is all about a retired 70-year-old widower,
Ben (played by Robert De Niro), who is bored with retired life. He
applied to be a senior intern at an online fashion retailer and got the
position. The founder of the company is Jules Ostin (Anne
Hathaway), a tireless, driven, demanding, dynamic workaholic. At
first, I found my honest review about this movie was boring but as I
get to focus on the middle of the story it shows a lot of lessons and
some perspective in life that will eventually teach us what really
important in life is. Upon watching the movie, I’ve got to learn
different career and life-related lessons that somehow changed my
life perspective. It is true that every day we get something to learn
or even though we already know those things but as time passes by,
we tend to forget of those, and an experience would remind us of
these things. And here are the things that the movie, “The Intern”
made me realize. From the line of the movie, “experience never
gets old,” it hits me so hard that it’s never too late to learn new
things that age is no barrier. Furthermore, learning can open doors
to new opportunities that can take us in a different direction or bring
us closer to achieving our dreams. Learning is key to personal
growth and development. It gives us a sense of purpose and a
feeling of accomplishment when we are able to acquire a new skill
or understanding. So therefore, learning should never stop, it should
be ongoing throughout our lives. Another lesson was the importance
of having a good relationship with your colleagues and other people
at work. We can see how the people inside the office love Ben and
the way he builds a good relationship towards them. He helped his
fellow workers; he arrived very early and cleaned up some mess and
also his good relationship towards people. These are the elements
that people experience when they love their job, and it produces a
good output on the organizational success. I learned from Ben that
your age won’t define your career in life if you’re true to yourself.
Another lesson I learned was in the scene where Ben have a deep
talk with Jules saying that “You should feel great about what you’ve
done and I’d hate to let you see anyone take that away from you”,
that simply means that Ben is saying to Jules to have faith in herself
that she can become a great CEO to her own company and not to
give up her dreams and goals. It simply says to us that we should
have faith or believe in yourself no matter what circumstances
might take. This movie is an eye-opener for me, who will be an
employee in the future, as I aspire to excel in my work and to be
successful in my chosen profession. It made me reflect on my views
on life, as I learned that success at work is not the essence of life
but only a part of it that makes us who we are as individuals. Also,
in this movie I’ve come to realize, it is true that experience is the
best teacher, and it is not making yourself down when you from a
high position getting learned from someone who is under your
position. Learn from the expert (someone who have experienced so
many things), just like what Jules done, when Ben started to become
her driver, as Ben was very observant and would say his thoughts
out of the blue, Jules started to put her trust on him and they kind of
became best friends, sharing thoughts, learning from each other

perspective and Ben became someone from Jules where she could
vent out her problems and it is important to open yourself from
criticisms of others, we cannot lecture ourselves by our own and it
would be a pleasure if someone had confront you of your committed
mistakes because they care for you, a true friend will not let you to
do things which are vain but he as true friend will correct you if you
have done something that is not right. In here, Ben became a true
friend for Jules and someone who is seen as father for her, as this
movie made me realized, when you are already in leading position,
it is important that we still not lose humility. The true meaning of
success is how well you managed to keep your feet on the ground
despite great recognition. Respect is a key requirement for a
healthy work environment. It promotes teamwork and increases
productivity and efficiency in the workplace. It lets employees know
they are valued for their abilities, qualities and achievements, and
that their role is important to their company's success. This film is
recommendable to all of us aspiring Human Resource student like
me because it will teach us how we were going to be when we will
be in the future work, how can we adapt these workforce and ethics
that we can carry in the future when we become a human resource
employee. Overall, this film effectively conveys to the audience its
message that in today's fast-paced world, it's challenging to balance
everything, so it's essential to prioritize what's truly important.
