 Experiment:3
To study the characteristics of flow over a flat plate

Procedure:-
Geometry:-
1. Open Ansys workbench and go to the geometry section.
2. In geometry, go to sketch and draw a rectangle.
3. Set the dimensions to 1m horizontal and 1m vertical.
4. Click on Generate.

5. Now you have to create surface from sketch.

6. Go to: Concept—Surface from sketches;
7. Select the edges of rectangle and click on generate.
8. Now name the edges as: (Left vertical edge as inlet, Right vertical edge as outlet, Lower
horizonal edge as wall and Upper horizontal edge as symmetry.)
9. Make sure that the type is selected fluid.

Meshing:-

1. Close the geometry and open meshing section.

2. Generate a mesh by clicking on “Generate Mesh”.
3. Refine the mesh: (Insert—Face Mapping—Insert Geometry).
4. Now you have to do sizing of the sides of rectangle.
5. Select the vertical sides of the rectangle and set the number of divisions to 100. Set their
behavior hard.
6. Select bias type and set the bias factor to 460. Reverse bias on one vertical side.
7. Now select the horizontal sides of the rectangle and set the number of divisions to 200. Set
their behavior hard.

Setup And Solution:-

1. Now close the meshing section and open Setup.

2. Go to the boundary conditions: (Inlet—edit—Set velocity 1—ok.)
3. Go to the solution initialize—initialize.
4. Go to the calculation activities and set the number of iterations to 100. Click on run
calculations.
Results:-

1. Select all the surfaces.

2. Go to contour and locate the symmetry 1 with velocity.
3. Now deselect the symmetry 1 and locate symmetry 2 with pressure.
4. Click on animation and run animation.
