Name: _____________________________________________________ LESSON : SLOPE OF A LINE

Activity 1: Did You Get My Point?

Directions: Describe the location of the abscissa (𝑥 −coordinate) and the ordinate (𝑦 −coordinate) with respect to the origin and determine the
coordinates of each point on the graph shown below. Write your answers on the table. Point S is provided as your guide. Then answer the questions that
follow.

A. Finding the Slope of a Line Given Two Points

Examples: Find the slope of the line that passes through the following:
1. (2,5) (1,3) 2. (3,9) (2,6) 3. (-8,1) (-7,5)

B. Finding the Slope of a Line Given an Equation

Examples: Find the slope of the line given the following equations:
1. y = 2x + 4 2. y = 5x – 6 3. 2x + 4y = 6
C. Finding the Slope of a Line Given its Graph
If a line rises to the right, the trend of the slope is positive and if the line rises to the left the slope is negative, if it forms a vertical line it has an
undefined slope, if it forms a horizontal line it has zero slope. The following illustrates such:
Examples:
