DATA ANALYSIS

DATA ANALYSIS is an essential aspect of modern decision-making processes across

various sectors including business, healthcare, finance, and academia. As organizations
generate massive amounts of data daily, understanding how to extract meaningful insights
from this data becomes crucial. In this article, we will explore the fundamental concepts of
data analysis, its types, significance, methods, and the tools used for effective analysis. We
will also address common queries related to data analysis, providing clarity on its definition
and applications in various fields.

“The process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modeling data to discover

useful information, draw conclusions, and support decision-making.”

TYPES OF DATA ANALYSIS

 Predictive (forecasting)
 Descriptive (business intelligence and data mining)
 Prescriptive (optimization and simulation)
 Diagnostic analytics

USAGE OF DATA ANALYTICS

Improved Decision-Making: If we have supporting data in favour of a decision, then we

can implement them with even more success probability. For example, if a certain decision
or plan has to lead to better outcomes then there will be no doubt in implementing them
again.
Better Customer Service: Churn modeling is the best example of this in which we try to
predict or identify what leads to customer churn and change those things accordingly so, that
the attrition of the customers is as low as possible which is a most important factor in any
organization.
Efficient Operations: Data Analytics can help us understand what is the demand of the
situation and what should be done to get better results then we will be able to streamline our
processes which in turn will lead to efficient operations.
Effective Marketing: Market segmentation techniques have been implemented to target this
important factor only in which we are supposed to find the marketing techniques which will
help us increase our sales and leads to effective marketing strategies.
STEP: 1 Click on start and select MS OFFICE.

STEP: 2 From the dropdown list select MS EXCEL

STEP: 3 Then the MS EXCEL spreadsheet opens as follows.

So for Calculating descriptive statistics using data analysis, make sure we have
the data analysis tool installed in MS ECXEL.

STEP: 4 If it is not installed, click on file, scroll down to options

STEP: 5 Click on Add- ins, then click on go beside Manage excel add-ins.

STEP: 6 Select Analysis toolpak in Add-ins tool box and then click on OK.
STEP: 7 Data analysis tool is installed.

STEP: 8 Now enter the data in excel spreadsheet. So let us take an example
of ‘scores of students’. The attributes used in the example are as follows

 Roll No
 Name of the student
 Economics
 Statistics
 Accounting
Here I want to know the data analysis of Economics subject.

STEP: 9 Click on data analysis to run descriptive statistics of students

score in Economics subject and select descriptive statistics. Then click on
OK.
STEP: 10 Select the input range by selecting all the data under economics.
It will highlight all the data in the particular row.

STEP: 11 Click on labels in first row. And then click on output range to
select where you want to display the output.
STEP: 12 Click on summary statistics and also select both K largest and K
smallest to know the largest and smallest value of the data set.

STEP: 13 Click on OK to get the output.
