1.Why is the classical (Rutherford) model for an atom of electron orbiting around the nucleus not able to explain the atomic Structure?
2.What is the ratio of radii of the orbits corresponding to first excited state and ground state, in a hydrogen atom?
3.State Bohr's quantisation condition for defining stationary orbits.
4.The K.E. of α particle incident on gold foil is doubled. How does the distance of closest approach change?
5.The ground state energy of hydrogen atom is -13.6 eV. What are P.E. and K.E. of electron in this state?
6.He23 and He31 nuclei have the same mass number. Do they have the same binding energy?
7.Why do stable nuclei never have more protons than neutrons?
8.Two nuclei have mass numbers in the ratio 27:125. What is the ratio of their nuclear radii & densities?

9.Find the ratio of energies of photons produced due to transition of an electron of hydrogen atom from its (a) second permitted energy level to the
first permitted level and (b) the highest permitted energy level to the first permitted level.
10. Find the wavelength of photons produced due to transition of an electron of hydrogen atom from its (a) second permitted energy level to the
first permitted level (b) the highest permitted energy level to the first permitted level.
11. Calculate the ratio of the frequencies of radiation emitted due to transition of the electron in a hydrogen atom from its (i) second permitted
energy level to the first level and (ii) highest permitted energy level to second permitted level.
12. Find the relation between the three wavelengths from the energy level diagram, shown in the figure.
13. Draw a plot of potential energy of a pair of nucleons as a function of their separation. Explain it.
14. Using the curve for the binding energy per nucleon as a function of mass number A, state clearly how the release in
energy in the processes of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion can be explained.

15. Derive an expression for the radii & velocity of the permitted orbits in the hydrogen atom. Also find bohr’s radius.
16. Calculate the binding energy per nucleon of 26Fe56 nucleus. Given that mass of 26Fe56 = 55.934939 u, mass of proton = 1.007825 u and mass of
neutron = 1.008665 u and 1u = 931 MeV.
17. A neutron is absorbed by a 3Li6 nucleus with subsequent emission of an alpha particle. Write the corresponding nuclear reaction. Calculate the
energy released in this reaction. m (3Li6) = 6.015126 u, m (₂He4) = 4.0026044 u, m(n¹) = 1.0086654 u, m (₁H³) = 3·016049 u. Take 1u = 931 MeV.
18. A heavy nucleus X of mass number 240 and B.E. per nucleon 7.6 MeV is splitted into two fragments Y and Z of mass numbers 110 and 130. The
binding energy of nucleons in Y and Z is 8.5 MeV per nucleon. Calculate the energy released per fission in MeV.
