B. Priming
- The teacher will show the set of sequences and
puzzle to solve, then chooses a learner who decoded
the collected numbers.

ACTIVITY: What’s the Secret Code?

Directions: Choose the correct number to complete

the following puzzle. List down all the numbers you
got, and decode them in the end using the decoder.

List of Numbers: 18-1-20-9-15

Answer: RATIO

Guide Questions:
1. What is the secret code?
2. How did you find the activity?
3. What did you notice in the activity?
4. What is ratio?
5. How relevant the patterns of the following
sequences?

- After that, the teacher will discuss the geometric

sequence.
-The teacher will provide examples by showing
different sequences to the class through a direct
method.

B. Development - The teacher will begin the lesson about the

(Pagpapaunlad) geometric sequence by showing an example of this
sequence.

A Geometric Sequence is a sequence whose

succeeding terms are produced by constantly
multiplying the same number from the previous term
to get the next term.

Common ratio is the number multiplied to each

term, and is denoted by the letter r.

The only way to know whether sequences are

geometric or not is by checking their common ratios.
We can find common ratio using:
an
r=
an−1
where, n is any positive integer greater than 1.

Example 1: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, …
Value of terms Common Classification
ratio
a1 = 1 a2 2 The sequence
a2 = a1 x 2 = 1 x 2 = r = = =2
a1 1 has a common
2 ratio of 2.
a3 = a2 x 2 = 2 x 2 = Multiplying the
a3 4
4 r= = =2
a2 2 previous terms
a4 = a3 x 2 = 4 x 2 =
by 2 gives the
8
a5 = a4 x 2 = 8 x 2 = next number in
16 the sequence.
Thus, the
sequence is
geometric.

Example 2: 1, -2, 4, -8, 16, …

Example 3: 2, 6, -18, -54, 162, …

ACTIVITY: Sort It Out

Directions: Put the letter of the sequences on each

respective column.

Arithmetic Sequence Geometric Sequence

A. 4, 8, 16, 32, …
B. 8, 4, 0, -8, -4
C. 1, 9, 17, …
D. 5, 10, 20, 40
E. 3, 6, 9, …, 24, 27, 30
F. 11, 18, 25, 32, 39

Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. How did you determine which are the geometric
sequences among the arithmetic sequences?
Consider the first sequence: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, … can you
get the 10th term? How about the 50th? The 100th?

By definition, the general term for any geometric

sequence is:
an= a1rn-1
where:
an = last term of the sequence
a1 = first term of the sequence
r = common ratio
n = number of terms in the sequence

Example 1: What is the 10th term of the geometric

sequence 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, …?
Example 2: What is the first term of a geometric
sequence whose 2nd term is 20 and 320, respectively?

C. Engagement ACTIVITY: Raise Your Boards

(Pagpapalihan) 1. The teacher will divide the class into four (4)
groups.
2. Each group will have their own white board.
3. They will answer each statement/question
presented on the screen for 15-20 seconds.
4. If the countdown reaches zero, the group must raise
their boards to have their answer considered,
otherwise it will be invalid.
4. If the group’s answer is correct, they will be given a
point.
5. The group with the highest points will be declared
the winner.

Directions: Read the statement/question carefully

and write your answer on your white board.

 What kind of sequence where the ratio of every

two successive terms is a constant? Geometric
Sequence
 What is the general term of the geometric
sequence? an= a1rn-1
 What is the only thing you need to check to
know whether sequences are geometric or not?
Common ratio
 It is denoted by letter ‘n’, what is it? Number of
terms
 Find the common ratio of the sequence 81, 27, 9, 3,
… 1/3
 If a1 = 3, r = 3, Find the 4th term. 81
 If a1 = 5, r = 2, Find the 5th term. 80
 If a5 = 64, r = 2, what is a1? 4
 If a1 = 2, a4 = 250, Find the r. 5

Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Are you able to answer the questions easily?
3. What are your realization during the group activity?

D. Assimilation ACTIVITY: Sing Your Answer!

(Paglalapat)
Directions: Analyze the sequence on the screen, and
answer what is being asked. Each choice has a
corresponding song. Choose the answer by singing a
song.

- Left side of the class will answer the 1st question.

Q1: What kind of sequence is -7, 0, 7, 14, 21?

Arithmetic Sequence
(Happy Birthday – Carlos Agassi version)

Geometric Sequence
(Happy Birthday – Original version)

- Right side of the class will answer the 2 nd question.

Q2. What is the common ratio of the sequence 3, -9,
27, -81…?
-3 -1/3
(Mini Miss U) (A Ram Sam Sam)

- The whole class will answer the 3rd question.

Q3. What is the next term of the sequence -9, 27, -
81?

-243 243
(Tong Tong Pakitong – (Tong Tong Pakitong
A vowel) – E vowel)

E. Application (Pagtataya) Directions: Determine whether the given statement

or sequence is an arithmetic or geometric sequence.
Write the letter D for Arithmetic or R for
geometric.

1.) A sequence where the ratio of every two

successive terms is a constant. R
2.) an = a1rn-1 R
3.) 3, 5, 7, 9, ... D
4.) a1 = 4, d = 5, and a9 = 44 D
5.) 3y, -6y, 12y, -24y, … R

V. REFLECTION (Pagninilay) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you
will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his
good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2
