Write about a problem you have in your workplace and suggest possible solutions
to this problem.
People spend one third of their lives at work, and workplace problems are a source of stress for
many. Workplace conflicts are found everywhere. These conflicts make it impossible for work to
run smoothly and be done perfectly.
Being an annoying person is not a good thing. One of my coworkers, Saad, was very annoying. The
problem is that he is talkative. He talks a lot and this makes me unable to concentrate and because
of this I make mistakes at work.

One day I was sitting in my cubicle doing some work. Saad came in and sat next to me. He started
talking about his personal life. I could not get my work done. I did not want to hurt his feelings. I
gave him a hint. He understood and left the room immediately.
Two days later, Saad came to talk to my coworker, Ahmed. Their conversation was long and there
was much noise. This time I made a big mistake while writing. I felt furious and decided to talk to
him directly. He did not like the way I talked to him. He felt embarrassed.
I went to talk to the manager about this. He understood and made a new rule : “Employees are not
allowed to leave the office unless it is urgent. I was relieved because of this rule. The problem was
solved.
Unit 3
Write a letter to an official in charge to tell him what changes he must make to
improve his institution.
Dear Commissioner,
I live in Isa Town near the Educational area. There is an intersection near Polytechnic. This
intersection needs to be more organized. I think it needs to be modified to be more safe. I am
writing to request that the city must add more traffic lights near this intersection.
As you know, Rd 4003 is very busy. Traffic there is very heavy especially during rush hours.
You always must wait a long time before you make a turn in the morning or in the afternoon.
During rush hours, people drive too fast. Everyone is in a hurry. Both drivers and pedestrians are at
risk. There was a horrible accident in this area last week. A pickup car crashed into a taxi. Luckily,
no one was badly hurt, only small scars in the face and arms. More dangerously, a car was about to
hit me last night while crossing the road.
If there were traffic lights, I think traffic would be smooth and people would be more
comfortable. The traffic lights will improve the neighbourhood in two ways. First, it will stop cars
to from moving fast and in this way more lives will be saved. Secondly, it will help to make the
traffic more smooth and easy.
Yours Sincerely,
Hussain Ali

Unit 4
Think about an event that happened recently in your community. Write about
positive or negative effects that this event has had on your community.
In the past, women in Bahrain had no education or jobs. They had to stay at home to help
doing the chores such as taking care of the young children, cooking and cleaning. There weas no
chance for them to follow their careers.
Now, the situation is completely different. Women are playing an equal role to men. You can
see women as teachers, lawyers, company directors, athletes, etc. This has good effects both on
the family and community. It has improved the quality of life and increased women’s sense of
independence.
As a result, men have taken up new roles in the family. They are not only the breadwinner but,
they do regular housework such as cooking, cleaning and children rearing as well and, in this way,
women can pursue their careers. Having a job has a good effect on the family. Women have steady
incomes. The pressure on the father or husband has been reduced. Furthermore, the purchasing
power has increased, so the family can afford a foreign travel and owning a private care.
As for the Bahraini society, the increasing number of women joining work has improved the
quality of society. The work of women a lawyers, politicians, ministers, and members of parliament
has increased the gender equality. Women can do more good job to society if they are given a
proper chance to join work.
