1. What did I learn FROM MY Internship experience in terms of Knowledge, Skills and Attitude?
Huge part of my journey in dakila begun as a young heroes hub fellow under the leadership
track. Although gaining quietly a background into the advocacies, and principles shared by dakila
to which I resonate with during our sessions, the work behind the human rights based NGO re-
main nearly unfamiliar to me. My internship and ongoing practicum as a heroes hub fellow
made good sense out of it. I understood how the work dynamics operations wise and composi-
tion/departments project wise are all tangled up with the vision and mission of Dakila. It con-
nects with historians, universities, activists’ groups, Commissions, political parties, and Depart-
ments in Government to collaborate on groundwork and implementation of its programs as well
as to join in the lobbying of certain laws and reforms. All in all, the main work of Dakila revolves
around three: Public Advocacy, Public Engagement, and Public Communication. Public Advoca-
cies is centralized on the programs: Heroes, Hub, Katipon, and timely issues, such as the recent
SONA. Public Engagement involves facilitation of film screenings, and the end impunity to lab to
connect with and reach strangers, groups, communities and individuals. Public Communications
or we may commonly refer to as the Public Relations Department allow the organization to rep-
resent itself and communicate to the larger audience through social media channels and the
like.
Setting aside delving into the dynamics of the organization, I bring two things with me as a Fil-
ipino: Sarili Para sa Bayan, Kollektib Para sa Bayan. First, we hold ourselves at stake in service of
the nations' interest, we then must not forsake being good stewards of ourselves in all aspects.
Second, the work of dakila is rooted in people, it puts emphasis on the essence of the collective
not just as means of achieving social change but as its milestone.
Dakila simultaneously offered educational discussion and assigned work relative to the national
affairs and issues at hand. In this deliverables, we are challenged to analyze data, reports and
facts - that may or may not ultimately give real time truth especially about the current state of
the nation. We were given platform to analyze communication strategies well as effective tool
to create political and social narratives. We looked into insights, issues and actions as tools as
well for creative concepts to catch the attention and language of the masses in hopes of re-
sounding the collective voice of hope and resistance.
Since we moved on bigger, foreign spaces in Metro Manila, we learned foremost to be vigilant.
We trod spaces in the City that were far from what we expect coming from a city that is slightly
safer for advocates, groups and activists. We learned to appreciate the democratic spaces we
have so freely moved in. Manila has a shrink democratic space, and it takes discernment to take
entry and exit doors into i
2. In what situation/s was I able to apply the Expected Lasallian Graduate Attributes (ELGA)?
Through creative resistance, in Dakila, I was able to piece together positive narratives to awaken
people's sight to what is really happening in the country. It takes critical thinking to acknowledge
the true status quo behind unrepresented data and numbers reported through mass or govern-
ment media.
We were able to march in solidarity of the struggles of allied groups who have been in the advo-
cacy of serving the poor and the marginalized.
3. How are these learnings helpful in preparing myself for professional life after college?
Dakila establishes me a good stepping stone for future social development work. By the
immersion given to me as an intern of scenarios within communities and groups, I will be able to
gain context into how I will craft programs or activities that approach significantly their social
and political life. The organization also has valuable networks and connection with esteemed
individuals in the field of history, social and political sciences which will be of great use for talks
and discussions in the near future. I would also like to also bunk in the strategies employed by
dakila in creating identity for programs, projects and even in the development of an
organization's goals.
Integrate. As an intern, I appreciated the set of orientations Dakila has prepared for us prior to
our duties. The admin also pieced up our specific skills and interest to our respective depart-
ments. I gained extensive background into how human rights organizations impact the nation
within its space and I would be more glad to know the mechanisms and strategies employed by
the organization in monitoring and evaluating its programs and activities which unfortunately
hasn't been reached in the duration of the internship.
Maximize. Dakila has opened various volunteer works aside from assigned deliverables under
our departments. I think this is a better move, and to use the potentials of interns not only for
vacant work but for crucial work under their supervision.
