QUESTION 1 [80 MARKS]

Scenario
You will create a small network that requires connecting network devices and configuring host
computers and one Cisco router for basic network connectivity. Switch1 has a default
configuration, and does not require additional configuration. Common utility commands will
be used to test and document the network. The 0th subnet is used.

Task 1 – Identify Information and Subnet Calculation

Given an IP address and mask of 195.156.75.20 / 24 (address / mask), design an IP

addressing scheme that satisfies the following requirements which shown in Table 1:

Table 1: Network Requirement

Subnet Number of Hosts
Subnet A 31
Subnet B 15
CONFIDENTIAL 2324II/BCN1053

Calculate and complete the Table 2 and Table 3

Table 2
Subnet A
Specification Student Answer
Number of host bits in the subnet (1)
Subnet Address (2)
First Usable IP / Host Address (3)
Last Usable IP / Host Address (4)
Broadcast Address (5)

Table 3
Subnet B
Specification Student Answer
Number of host bits in the subnet (6)
Subnet Address (7)
First Usable IP / Host Address (8)
Last Usable IP / Host Address (9)
Broadcast Address (10)

**Each question allocates 2 Marks which include the correction calculation part.
[20 Marks]
[CO1, PO1, C3]

Task 2 – Design IP Address

The host computers will use the LAST USABLE IP / HOST address in the subnet.
The network router will use the FIRST USABLE IP / HOST address.

Write down the IP address information for each device in the Table 4:

Router1 Configuration in Packet Tracer

Task (for Router1) Specification

Router name Router1
Encrypted privileged exec password cisco
Console access password class
Telnet (VTY) access password class
Encrypt Console and Telnet password
Configure the MOTD banner. AUTHORIZED ACCESS ONLY
Router1 interface Gig 0/0 ◼ Set the description “Link to Subnet A”
(remove the double quote mark (“”))
◼ Set the layer 3 Address
Router1 interface Gig 0/1 ◼ Set the description “Link to Subnet B”
(remove the double quote mark (“”))
◼ Set the layer 3 Address
[26 Marks]
[CO3, PO3, C3]

Task 5 – Verify Network Connectivity

Step 1: Use the ping command to verify network connectivity.
Use the Table 5 to methodically verify connectivity with each network device. Take
corrective action to establish connectivity if a test fails:
