1. Given a 3 × 3 matrix B such that det(B) = 3:

(i) Compute det(B 2 ).

(ii) Find det(adj(B 2 )).

2. Let A be a skew-symmetric matrix of order n, then show that det (A) = 0 if n is odd.

3. If A is non-zero column matrix of order n × 1 and B is non-zero row matrix of the type 1 × n,
then ρ(A B) is ….

4. Investigate for what value of λ and μ do the system of equations


x + y + z = 6,x + 2y + 3z = 10 and x + 2y + λ z = μ have (i) no solution, (ii) unique solution
and (iii) in nite number of solution.

eld of real numbers?

9. To show that Pn[x] = {a 0 + a1 x + a 2 x 2 + . . . + an x n : ai ∈ ℝ, ∀ i = 0,1,2,...,n} is a vector


space over the eld ℝ under usual addition of polynomials and scalar multiplication.

10. Show that S = {(1,2,4), (1,0,0), (0,1,0), (0,0,1)} is a linearly dependent subset of the vector
space V3(ℝ) where ℝ is the eld of real numbers.
