Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: explain the key concepts of project management

CO2 :: apply project management tools, to generate, screen, and evaluate project ideas, with
suitable software for project scheduling and execution.

CO3 :: analyze the design of work breakdown structures, project execution plans, and resource
allocation to optimize project outcomes
CO4 :: assess the financial feasibility of projects through cost estimation, working capital
analysis, and cash flow projections

CO5 :: create detailed project plans, business plans, and reports

CO6 :: apply strategic decision-making skills to address challenges in project management

Unit I
Introduction to Project Management : concept of project and project management, features of
projects, project family tree, categories of projects, project manager’s roles and responsibilities
Taxonomy of Project Management : the 7-S of project management, project life cycle phases,
project selection process, project appraisal, tools and techniques of project management
Unit II
Generation and Screening of project ideas : generation of ideas, monitoring of the environment,
corporate appraisal, tools for identifying investment opportunities, scouting for project ideas,
preliminary screening, project rating index
Market and Demand analysis : situational analysis, collection of secondary information, conducting
market survey, characterization of the market
Unit III
Technical Analysis : manufacturing process technology, technical arrangements, material inputs,
utilities, product mix, plant capacity, location and site selection, machinery and equipment,
environmental aspects, structures and civil works
Financial Analysis : financial estimates and projection, cost of the project, means of finance,
estimation of sales and production, working capital requirements and its financing, projected cash
flow statement and projected balance sheet
Unit IV
Introduction to MS-Project : tasks and relationship creation, work breakdown structure creation,
constraints creation and application, define and assign resources, resource analysis and levelling,
multiple projects and tracking, report generation software
Unit V
Organizing Systems and Procedures for Project Implementation : working and design of the
system, work breakdown structure (WBS), project execution plan (PEP), project procedure manual
and control systems
Lucidcharts for Project Managers : translation of information from l0 to l1, introduction to lucid
chart, creating basic charts and diagrams, project management activities, meeting management and
tasks tracking in lucid chart, backlog prioritization and refinement in lucidchart, requirements analysis
and management in lucid chart
Unit VI
Project Report : concept, elements of project report, the importance of DPR, the concept of a
business plan, major components of the business plan
Project Review and Administrative aspects : control of in-progress aspects, post-completion
audits, agency problem, abandonment analysis
