Big Idea: There is a “trick” (called the power rule) to computing the derivative of a power function
quickly and easily without going through the limit definition of the derivative. The trick is that the
derivative of a power function is equal to the exponent times the variable raised to the power of one
minus the original exponent: .

combinations of functions using the power rule.
