Radio Broadcasting Roles

• Anchor (2)
o Responsible for leading the entire program. Anchors should deliver the
first news, as it is the most important segment.
• News Presenter (3)
o Each news presenter is responsible for preparing and delivering their
assigned news segments.
• Technical Director (1)
o Ensures the program remains captivating through sound effects and
transitions.
o Virtual DJ: The primary application used to produce and manage sound
effects.
• Scriptwriter (1)
o Compiles the program's script and proofreads all content for accuracy and
flow.

Script Outline

• Opening Spiel
o Station ID
o Time Check
• Intro
• Headlines
• News
• Infomercial
• News
• Closing Spiel
Notes: During the competition, participants will have:

• 1 hour to prepare the script.


• 2 minutes for soundcheck and setup.
• 5 minutes for program presentation.
• Total time: 7 minutes.

Sample Program Timing

• 00:30 – Infomercial
• 00:10 – Station ID
• 00:30 – Intro, Outro, Teaser (e.g., "Malunggay as an herbal plant?"), and
Bumpers (e.g., "DZRA 555 will return after the break…").
• 03:50 – News Presentation

News Sequence:

• National News – Presented by Anchor 1


• Local News – Presented by Anchor 2 or News Presenter 1
• International News – Presented by News Presenter 2
• Sports, Showbiz, Weather, or Traffic – Presented by News Presenter 3

Infomercial:

• All members may participate in this segment.


• Make it engaging and theatrical while delivering valuable information.
Tips in News Writing

• Always answer the 5 WH Questions (Who, What, When, Where, Why).


• Write out symbols, fractions, and numbers.
• Avoid abbreviations.
• Each news segment should be 25–30 words.
• Keep it simple: Listeners only hear the news once, so avoid complex or
highfalutin words.
• Be conversational.
• Maximize airtime: Avoid being under- or over-time to prevent deductions.
• Ensure the script is error-free, both grammatically and factually. Aim for
perfection.

General Script Formatting

• Double-spaced all lines.


• Justified.
• Write page number on each script.

Additional Tips

• Avoid dead air—always have filler music or transitions prepared.


• Background music should not overpower the presenter.
o Presenter's voice at 100%, music at 20%.
