INSTRUCTION: Answer ALL questions.

Assignment Question:

In a group of maximum 4 members, design an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) for both scenario.
Your ERD should include entities, attributes, relationships, and cardinality.

Scenario 1:

You are tasked with designing a database system for a BuyMe online retail company. The company
sells various products through its website and manages customer orders, products, suppliers, and
shipments. Each product has a unique ID, name, description, price, and quantity in stock. Customers
are identified by a unique ID, name, email address, and shipping address. Suppliers have a unique
ID, name, contact information, and address.

Scenario 2:

You are assigned to design a database system for a small community library in a rural area. The
library manages books, borrowers, authors, and borrowing transactions. Each book has a unique
ISBN, title, author(s), publication year, and genre. Borrowers are identified by a unique library card
number, name, contact information, and address. Authors have a unique ID, name, and biography.

Submission Guidelines:
 Submit your ERD along with a brief explanation of your design choices.
 Ensure the ERD is legible and properly labeled.
 Your submission should demonstrate a clear understanding of database design principles.
Please use suitable tools to construct the ERD.

Criteria and marks for each scenario (50 marks)
Entity Identification and Attributes (20 marks)

 Correct identification of entities related to the scenario. (5 marks)


 Comprehensive listing of relevant attributes for each entity. (10 marks)
 Attributes demonstrate understanding of the data needed for effective database
management. (5 marks)

Relationship Definition (20 marks)

 Accurate identification of relationships between entities. (5 marks)


 Clear specification of relationship types (one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many). (10
marks)
 Justification of relationship types based on the scenario requirements. (5 marks)

Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) (10 marks)

 Clear and concise representation of entities, attributes, and relationships. (5 marks)


 Proper use of symbols and notation in the ERD. (5 marks)
