ABSTRACT

Food spoilage is a widespread issue that leads to significant food waste,


environmental impact, and financial loss. One of the key challenges in
minimizing food waste is the inability to accurately assess the freshness of
perishable food items. This project aims to create an AI-powered system that
uses advanced image processing techniques to evaluate the freshness of various
food items, including fruits, vegetables, and meats. By analyzing visual features
such as color, texture, and surface patterns, the system generates a freshness
score that indicates the quality of the food and estimates its remaining shelf life.
Leveraging deep learning models like InceptionV3, the system is trained to
classify food items and assess their freshness with high accuracy, making it
suitable for everyday use. Users can easily upload images of their food through
a mobile application, where the AI model will process the images in real time
and provide a detailed freshness evaluation. The system not only helps users
understand the current state of their food but also allows them to track the
freshness of items over time. This solution aims to empower consumers to make
informed decisions about food consumption and reduce food waste by alerting
them when items are nearing spoilage. By offering a simple, user-friendly
interface, the system makes freshness evaluation accessible to anyone with a
smartphone, encouraging better food management practices and contributing to
more sustainable consumption.
