OPERATION AND USE OF PERIPHERAL
DEVICES
Computer Peripheral Device- is any device connected either internally or
externally that provides input and output to the computer.
Some Common Input Devices:
• Keyboard - use to enter data and instructions to the computer. • Mouse - is a pointing device that allows the user to control a pointer on the screen. • Joystick - is a vertical lever mounted on a base. You move the lever in different directions to control the actions of the simulated vehicle or player. Some Common Input Devices: • Pen Tablet (or a graphic tablet) - is a flat, rectangular, electronic plastic board used by architects, mapmakers, designers and home users to create drawings and sketches by using a pressure-sensitive pen or a cursor. • Scanner- is a light sensing input device that reads printed text and graphics and then translates the results into a form the computer can process. • Digital Camera - allows you to take digital pictures and store the photographed images digitally, instead of a traditional film. • Digital Video Camera - Digital video (DV) camera records video as digital signals instead of analog signals. While PC Camera is a type of Digital Video camera that enables a home or small business user to capture video and still images, send e-mail messages with video attachments. • Microphone - allows computer users to input audio into the computers. Some Common Output Devices: • Monitor - is a display device that is packaged as a separate peripheral. Desktop computer typically use a monitor as their display device. Most display device show text, graphics, and video information in color. Some however are monochrome. • Projector is a device that takes the text and images displaying on a computer screen and projects them on a larger screen so an audience can see the image clearly. • Printer - is an output device that produces text and graphics on a physical medium such as paper or transparency film. • Speakers - produces music, speech and other sounds, such as beeps. Typically have tone and volume controls, allowing users to adjust settings. Devices that function as both input and output: • External Hard Drives • Media Card Readers • Digital Camcorders • Digital Mixers • MIDI Equipment Prepared by:
