The transitional communication model split from the traditional linear model that represents
communication as one way flow of information from sender to a receiver . Instead , it support
communication as a multifaceted and simultaneous process. This model focus attention no both
communicators actively contributes to the creation of meaning each person acts as both sender and
receiver continuously influencing the communication process .
Communication : According to Duplooy and Oliver the transactional model acknowledge that individuals
involved in communication are not a mere senders or receive. They constantly and simultaneously
encode and decode messages, continuously have an influence on how the interaction unfolds. (Duplooy,
celliers , Oliver :2000)
Message : According to Duplooy and Oliver the massage is the central element of communication
surrounding verbal and non verbal components. It involves the actual information being transported as
well as intersubjective aspects such as the tone or non verbal signals that convey attitudes and
emotions.
Channels : According to Duplooy and Oliver channels refers to the mediums through which messages
are transmitted. These can include face-to-face interaction, phone conversations , text messages and
social media or any other form of mediated communication. The choice of channel have an influence
on how a massage is recognized and interpreted.
Context : According to Duplooy and Oliver the transactional model stresses the importance of context
including the physical ,social and cultural environments in which communication takes place. These
factors influences how communications interpret and create messages.
Noise : According to Duplooy and Oliver noise encircles any disruption or interference within the
communication process that can obstruct the flow of messages. Noise can be physical for example
background noise , psychological for example thoughts and disruption and physiological.
