FORMATTING

 Changing the appearance or layout of a document is called formatting.


MAKING TEXT BOLD, ITALIC OR
UNDERLINED
 It is used to make selected text appear in a different style to highlight it
and make it stand out from the rest.
 One of the ways to do this is by displaying it in bold, italic or underlined
format.

 The Bold option makes the text thicker as compared to the rest of the
text.

 The Italics option is used to slant the text to the right.

 The Underline option is used to place a line under the text.

TEXT ALIGNMENT

• It is used to describe how text is placed on the screen with respect to the margins.
• There are four types of alignment that you can set for the text: left, right, center and
justified.

Left Alignment
• It places the selected text in line with the left margin.
• By default, when you type some text in Writer, it is always left aligned.
• Keyboard shortcut for left align: Ctrl+L

Center Alignment
• It places the selected text at the center of the left and right margins.
• It is mostly used for titles and headings.
• The keyboard shortcut for center alignment: Ctrl+E

Right Alignment
• It places the selected text in line with the right margin.
• It is often used for placing dates or references in a document.
• The keyboard shortcut for right alignment: Ctrl+R

Justified
• It places the text evenly between the left and right margins by adding extra spaces between words.
• It is mainly used while designing books, magazines and newspapers to give a uniform and neat look
to the text by avoiding a ragged right edge.
• The keyboard shortcut for justified: Ctrl+J
