GRADE 2 CREATIVE ART NOTES TERM 1-3.

1.0 Our Neighbourhood

1.1 Doodling (15 Lessons)


What is Doodling?

 Doodling is making simple drawings or marks on paper. You can doodle


pictures of plants, trees, and other things you see in your neighbourhood.

Materials for Doodling:

 You will need a pencil, paper, crayons, markers, or colored pencils .

Let’s Doodle Plants:

 Draw simple pictures of plants, trees, and flowers you see around your home
and school.

Action Song Example:

 "In our neighbourhood, we see the trees,


The flowers bloom and sway in the breeze,
We doodle them on paper bright,
With colors that make them a lovely sight."

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify materials used in doodling, like pencils and crayons.
o Example: I used a pencil to doodle a tree.
 I have learnt to make simple pictures of plants in my neighbourhood using
doodling.
o Example: I drew a flower and colored it with crayons.
 I have learnt to enjoy singing action songs about things in my
neighbourhood.
o Example: I sang a song about trees while drawing them.
 I have learnt to appreciate my doodles and those of my friends.
o Example: I liked the way my friend drew a bush and colored it green.
1.2 Painting (20 Lessons)

What is Painting?
 Painting is using colors to make pictures on paper or other surfaces.

Materials for Painting:

 You will need paint, paintbrushes, water, and paper.

Let’s Paint Items in the Neighbourhood:

 Paint pictures of things you see in your neighbourhood, like houses, cars,
and trees.

Action Song Example:

 "We paint the cars, the houses too,


The trees and skies, all bright and true,
With our brushes, we create,
In our neighbourhood, it’s great!"

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify materials used for painting, like paint and brushes.
o Example: I used a paintbrush to paint a house.
 I have learnt to paint pictures of items found in the neighbourhood.
o Example: I painted a picture of a car.
 I have learnt to make patterns using painted picture cut-outs of items found
in the neighbourhood.
o Example: I cut out my painted tree and made a pattern with it.
 I have learnt to sing an action song about things in the neighbourhood.
o Example: I sang about the cars while painting them.
 I have learnt to appreciate my painted work and that of others.
o Example: I admired the way my friend painted a tall building.

2.0 Our School


2.1 Mosaic (15 Lessons)
What is Mosaic?

 Mosaic is creating a picture by sticking small pieces of colored paper,


stones, or other materials onto a surface.

Materials for Making Mosaic:

 You will need small pieces of colored paper, glue, and a base paper.

Let’s Make Mosaic Pictures of the School Compound:

 Create pictures of buildings found in your school, like classrooms, offices,


and the playground, using mosaic.

Singing Game Example:

 "In our school, the buildings stand,


With classrooms, offices, all so grand,
We stick and place, piece by piece,
Our mosaic grows and never cease."

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify materials for making mosaic pictures, like colored
paper and glue.
o Example: I used small pieces of blue paper to make the sky in my
mosaic.
 I have learnt to make mosaic pictures of buildings in the school compound.
o Example: I created a mosaic of our classroom.
 I have learnt to perform singing games about buildings in our school.
o Example: I sang about our office block while making a mosaic of it.
 I have learnt to appreciate making mosaics from locally available materials.
o Example: I liked how my friend used different colored paper to make
the playground.

2.2 Swinging and Stretching (15 Lessons)


What is Swinging and Stretching?
 Swinging involves moving back and forth, like on a swing. Stretching is
when you reach out your body to make it longer.

Swinging and Stretching Activities:

 Swing back and forth using a rope or on a swing.


 Stretch your arms and legs to reach up high or down low.

Singing Game Example:

 "Swinging high, swinging low,


Stretching up, down we go,
We move our bodies, strong and free,
In our school, so happily."

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to differentiate between swinging and stretching activities.


o Example: I know swinging means moving back and forth, and
stretching means reaching out my arms and legs.
 I have learnt to perform swinging activities in school.
o Example: I swung back and forth on the school swing.
 I have learnt to perform stretching activities in school.
o Example: I stretched my arms up to touch the sky.
 I have learnt to perform a singing game while swinging and stretching.
o Example: I sang about swinging while doing the actions.
 I have learnt to appreciate my movements and those of my classmates.
o Example: I liked how my friend stretched her arms very high.

3.0 Our School

3.1 Body Percussions (20 Lessons)


What is Body Percussion?

 Body percussion is using parts of your body to create sounds, like clapping,
stomping, or snapping your fingers.

Body Parts Used for Percussion:


 Clapping: Use your hands to clap.
 Stomping: Use your feet to stomp.
 Snapping: Use your fingers to snap.

Let’s Create Rhythm Patterns:

 Combine clapping, stomping, and snapping to make rhythm patterns while


singing.

Coloring Activity:

 Color pictures of body parts used in body percussion, like hands, feet, and
fingers.

Action Song Example:

 "Clap your hands and stomp your feet,


Snap your fingers to the beat,
We make music, loud and sweet,
With our bodies, can’t be beat!"

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify parts of the body that can be used for percussion.
o Example: I can use my hands to clap and my feet to stomp.
 I have learnt to perform rhythm patterns using body percussion.
o Example: I clapped and stomped in a pattern while singing.
 I have learnt to perform movements using rhythm patterns of body
percussions.
o Example: I moved my body to the beat while clapping.
 I have learnt to color pictures of body parts used in body percussions.
o Example: I colored a picture of hands clapping.
 I have learnt to appreciate my efforts and those of others in making music
with our bodies.
o Example: I enjoyed the way my friend combined clapping and
snapping to make a rhythm.

4.0 Animals

4.1 Modelling (20 Lessons)


What is Modelling?

 Modelling is when you shape or create something using materials like clay
or dough.

Materials for Modelling:

 Use clay, dough, or soft soil. Tools like rolling pins and sculpting tools can
help. A clean surface to work on is also needed.

What is the Rolling Technique?

 The rolling technique is a way to shape materials like clay or dough by


rolling them into different forms. Here’s how:
1. Flatten the Material: Start by flattening a piece of clay or dough with
your hands or a rolling pin.
2. Roll It Out: Roll the material back and forth to make it thin and even.
You can roll it in different directions to shape it.
3. Shape It: After rolling, you can shape the material into different
forms, like animals or objects, by molding or cutting it .

Let’s Model Domestic Animals:

 Create simple models of domestic animals like cows, chickens, dogs, and
cats using the rolling technique.

Fun Games and Rhymes:

 Play fun games and recite rhymes about domestic animals while modelling.

Action Song Example:

 "Here’s a cow, so big and brown,


Here’s a cat, jumping around,
We make animals, one by one,
In our class, we have such fun."

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify materials for modelling, like clay and dough.
o Example: I used clay to make a model of a dog.
 I have learnt to make models of domestic animals using the rolling
technique.
o Example: I rolled clay to form the body of a cow.
 I have learnt to enjoy playing games and reciting rhymes about domestic
animals.
o Example: I played a game while making a model of a chicken and
recited a rhyme about it.
 I have learnt to appreciate the models I make and those made by others.
o Example: I liked my friend’s model of a cat and how they used
different colors.

5.0 Weather

5.1 Paper Pleating (20 Lessons)


What is Paper Pleating?

 Paper pleating is a technique where you fold paper back and forth, like
making a fan.

Materials for Paper Pleating:

 You will need paper, scissors, and glue.

Let’s Make a Paper Fan:

 Fold paper back and forth to create a fan that you can use on sunny days.

Action Song Example:

 "On sunny days, the sun shines bright,


We use our fans, to cool just right,
We fold the paper, in and out,
Our fans are ready, without a doubt!"

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify materials used in paper pleating, like paper and
scissors.
o Example: I used paper to make a fan.
 I have learnt to make a paper fan using the pleating technique.
o Example: I folded the paper back and forth to create my fan.
 I have learnt to sing action songs about sunny days using the paper fan.
o Example: I sang a song about the sun while using my paper fan.
 I have learnt to appreciate the making of paper fans for use during sunny
days.
o Example: I liked how my friend’s fan was decorated with colorful
drawings.

6.0 Water

6.1 Water Play (20 Lessons)


What is Water Play?

 Water play involves fun activities like squeezing water or making bubbles.

Materials for Water Play:

 You will need water, a basin, soap, and safe water toys.

Water Safety:

 Always be careful when playing with water. Never play alone, and avoid
deep water areas.

Let’s Perform Water Play Activities:

 Have fun squeezing water and making bubbles in a safe environment.

Coloring Activity:

 Color pictures of materials used in water play, like buckets, basins, and
water toys.

Action Song Example:

 "We play with water, splash and sway,


Squeeze and bubble, all the day,
With water safe, we have some fun,
In the sun, with everyone."

What I Have Learnt:

 I have learnt to identify safety measures when playing with water.


o Example: I know I should never play alone in deep water.
 I have learnt to perform squeezing water and bubbling activities.
o Example: I made bubbles by blowing air through a soapy straw.
 I have learnt to color pictures of materials used in water play.
o Example: I colored a picture of a bucket and a basin.
 I have learnt to appreciate playing with water while observing safety.
o Example: I enjoyed making bubbles with my friends while staying
safe.
